{"id":436569,"date":"2026-01-29T09:16:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T09:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/436569\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T09:16:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T09:16:08","slug":"wildfire-smoke-linked-to-17000-strokes-annually-in-the-united-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/436569\/","title":{"rendered":"Wildfire Smoke Linked to 17,000 Strokes Annually in the United States"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"300\" height=\"168\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Screenshot-2026-01-28-000112-300x168.png\" class=\"attachment-medium size-medium wp-image-721455\" alt=\"\"   loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Smoke from wildfires may be responsible for 17,000 strokes each year in the United States, new research suggests.<\/p>\n<p>The study, published in European Heart Journal, examined various sources of particulate matter smaller than 2.5 micrometers in diameter (about 30 times smaller than the width of a human hair). <\/p>\n<p>Also known as PM2.5, such particles are so small that they can be inhaled and enter the bloodstream, where they have been linked to an array of health effects, including decreased lung function, cardiovascular diseases, and even neurological disorders. <\/p>\n<p>But the new study seems to indicate that PM2.5 from wildfires is particularly harmful.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists examined a cohort of about 25 million people over the age of 65 who were covered by Medicare, a federal health insurance program.
