{"id":437361,"date":"2026-01-29T18:46:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T18:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/437361\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T18:46:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T18:46:07","slug":"more-than-half-of-transgender-youth-live-in-states-with-restrictive-laws-or-policies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/437361\/","title":{"rendered":"More than half of transgender youth live in states with restrictive laws or policies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A report published today by the <a href=\"https:\/\/williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Williams Institute<\/a> at UCLA School of Law shows that 53% of transgender youth between the ages of 13 and 17 in the U.S.\u2014 approximately 382,800 young people \u2014 live in 29 states with laws or policies that restrict their access to gender-affirming care, sports, bathrooms and facilities or restrict the use of gender-affirming pronouns in schools.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025 alone, 24 states enacted or expanded at least one type of restrictive legislation, the report\u2019s authors said.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, nearly 40% of the estimated <a href=\"https:\/\/williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu\/publications\/trans-adults-united-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">724,000 youth<\/a> who identify as transgender in the U.S. \u2014 or 285,300 teens \u2014 live in 17 states and Washington, D.C., where \u201cshield laws\u201d protect their access to gender-affirming care.<\/p>\n<p>The report also reveals stark regional differences when it comes to legislation affecting transgender youth.
