Former Phillie David Robertson has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve decided it\u2019s time for me to hang up my spikes and retire from the game I\u2019ve loved for as long as I can remember,\u201d Robertson wrote in a statement posted to his X account<\/a>. \u201cBaseball has given me more than I ever dreamed possible over the last 19 seasons. From winning a World Series, to pitching in an All-Star game, to representing the United States and bringing home a World Baseball Classic Gold and an Olympic silver. I\u2019ve had the privilege of playing alongside amazing teammates, learning from outstanding coaches and being welcomed into organizations that felt like family.\u201d <\/p>\n

Robertson, 40, had three stints with the Phillies, the last coming in 2025 as a midseason signing. He debuted in 2008 with the Yankees, pitched against the Phillies in the 2009 World Series and closed out a Game 1 victory of the 2022 World Series for the Phillies against the Astros. He signed a two-year deal with the Phillies in 2019, but underwent Tommy John surgery later in the year. He was later acquired by the Phillies from the Cubs in a trade deadline deal in 2022. <\/p>\n

Over his 17-year major league career, Robertson posted a 2.93 ERA in 894 1\/3 innings. Robertson is one of only three Phillies in history to have three separate stints with the club. Chuck Klein and Bill Hallman are the other two. <\/p>\n
