Bruce Springsteen touched down in Minnesota on Friday and performed his protest song \u201cStreets of Minneapolis<\/a>,\u201d a response to the killings of Renee Good<\/a> and Alex Pretti<\/a> by federal agents, hours after it soared to the top of iTunes.<\/p>\n

The famed New Jersey rocker brought the house down at First Avenue, a Minneapolis venue that played host to the “Defend Minnesota!” benefit show<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hours earlier on Friday morning, \u201cStreets of Minneapolis\u201d occupied the No. 1 position, just ahead of \u201cChoosin\u2019 Texas\u201d by Ella Langley, \u201cLet Em\u2019 Know\u201d by Bryson Tiller and \u201cI Just Might\u201d by Bruno Mars.<\/p>\n

Springsteen penned the song on Saturday and released it on Wednesday <\/a>\u201cin response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis,\u201d the artist told fans via social media.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good,\u201d he added. \u201cStay free, Bruce Springsteen.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 4 1\/2-minute song decries the ongoing action by federal immigration enforcement and calls out Trump administration officials by name \u2014 Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller and President Donald Trump himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe eagerly await Mr. Springsteen\u2019s songs dedicated to the thousands of American citizens killed by criminal illegal aliens,\u201d Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said Wednesday in response to Springsteen\u2019s song.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery day, the brave men and women of ICE are saving lives by arresting the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens, including murderers, rapists, pedophiles, drug dealers, gang members, and terrorists,\u201d McLaughlin said.<\/p>\n

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said Wednesday, \u201cThe Trump Administration is focused on encouraging state and local Democrats to work with federal law enforcement officers on removing dangerous criminal illegal aliens from their communities \u2014 not random songs with irrelevant opinions and inaccurate information.\u201d<\/p>\n

Official versions of \u201cStreets of Minneapolis\u201d have amassed over 5 million views on YouTube<\/a> and nearly 500,000 likes on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n
