BOZEMAN, Mont. \u2014 Over Thanksgiving, the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary provided short-term care for an orphaned mountain lion kitten rescued during a severe winter storm. <\/p>\n
The kitten, named Nancy for her feisty personality, weighed just 4.5 pounds upon arrival and greeted her caregivers with a hiss. <\/p>\n
With attentive care, Nancy quickly gained strength and transitioned to a meat-based diet.<\/p>\n
The first months of life are critical for mountain lion kittens, as proper nutrition and a low-stress environment support healthy growth and development. <\/p>\n
As Nancy grew, the sanctuary’s animal care team evaluated her long-term needs. <\/p>\n
Since she cannot be released into the wild, Nancy requires a large, species-specific habitat to thrive in human care.<\/p>\n
