Martin Short and Steve Martin saluted Catherine O\u2019Hara at the duo\u2019s Friday night show in Austin, Texas, just hours after the news of the Home Alone actress\u2019 death<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With a photo of O\u2019Hara projected behind them, Short and Martin encouraged the crowd to raise their drinks for the actress, who Short called \u201cthe greatest, most brilliant, kindest, sweetest angel any of us worked with.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Short told the crowd, he had known O\u2019Hara since she was 18 years old; both Canadian, they first performed together with Toronto\u2019s legendary comedy group The Second City, and briefly overlapped on the cast of the SCTV sketch comedy series.<\/p>\n

The pair later reunited for Short\u2019s 1989 comedy special I, Martin Short, Goes Hollywood and his Jiminy Glick series, as well as voice actors on Tim Burton\u2019s Frankenweenie. Additionally, O\u2019Hara and Steve Martin starred together in the 1994 dramedy A Simple Twist of Fate.<\/p>\n

The star of\u00a0Home Alone\u00a0and a\u00a0comedic legend<\/a>, O\u2019Hara died Friday following \u201ca brief illness.\u201d An\u00a0outpouring of remembrances<\/a>\u00a0from fans and celebrities across Hollywood were shared following news of O\u2019Hara\u2019s death. Macaulay Culkin, who famously played her son, Kevin McCallister, in\u00a0Home Alone\u00a0and\u00a0Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, was among the tributes. \u201cMama,\u201d Culkin\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0on a social media post, sharing a photo of them in the 1990 Christmas classic. \u201cI thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Hara\u2019s Schitt\u2019s Creek co-star Eugene Levy, also an SCTV vet alongside Short and O\u2019Hara, said in a statement<\/a>, \u201cWords seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today. I had the honor of knowing and working with the great Catherine O\u2019Hara for over fifty years. From our beginnings on the Second City stage, to\u00a0SCTV, to the movies we did with Chris Guest, to our six glorious years on\u00a0Schitt\u2019s Creek, I cherished our working relationship, but most of all our friendship. And I will miss her. My heart goes out to Bo, Matthew, Luke, and the entire O\u2019Hara family.\u201d<\/p>\n
