ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE, Jan 31 (Reuters) \u2013 U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he believed the \u200dUnited States would \u201cwork a deal\u201d on Cuba.<\/p>\n
His comments came days after threatening tariffs on any country supplying Cuba with oil.<\/p>\n
Trump reiterated his call for Cuba to negotiate with the \u200cUnited States.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt doesn\u2019t have to \u200cbe a humanitarian crisis,\u201d Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Florida.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think they probably would come to us and \u200bwant to make a deal \u2026 They have a situation that\u2019s very bad \u200dfor Cuba. They have \u200bno money. They have no \u200boil. They lived off Venezuelan money and \u200doil, and none of that\u2019s coming now.\u201d<\/p>\n
In 2025, Venezuela was Cuba\u2019s largest oil supplier, meeting roughly one-third of the island\u2019s daily needs. Supply from Venezuela dropped \u200dfollowing the U.S. blockade on shipments from there, even before the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas \u200dMaduro.<\/p>\n
Reuters \u200dexclusively reported in January that \u200bMexico, Cuba\u2019s top supplier after Venezuela \u200bcut \u2060off shipments in December, was \u200creviewing whether to continue sending oil amid fears it could face retaliation from Washington.<\/p>\n
