When the going gets tough, Donald Trump<\/a> calls in reinforcements. And Saturday Night Live<\/a> calls upon Pete Davidson<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

The SNL alum surprised viewers by leading Saturday’s cold open<\/a> as President Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan, who was recently called in to Minneapolis to ease the city’s political unrest after federal agents killed two people<\/a> in Minnesota city in January.\n<\/p>\n

But in SNL’s version of events, Davidson’s Homan quickly realizes that he has his work cut out for him because none of the the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have any understanding of what’s gone so wrong in Minneapolis.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cNow I\u2019m sure a lot of you are wondering why Greg Bovino, the last guy, was dismissed,\u201d Davidson as Homan began. \u201cI want to stress that it wasn\u2019t because he did a bad job or publicly lied about the shooting of an American citizen, or even uh-oh, dressed like a Nazi. It was that he was filmed doing these things. And the president no-likey that.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

After declaring that ICE needs to “tighten up,” he asked the unit commanders to state the mission objective.\n<\/p>\n

Dressed as an ICE agent, Kenan Thompson<\/a> replied, “Pass.”\n<\/p>\n

James Austin Johnson<\/a>, another ICE unit commander, then took a stab at the answer: “This could be wrong, but\u2026 Army?\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\u201cClose. That\u2019s close,\u201d Davidson’s Homan replied. “We\u2019re here to detain and deport illegal immigrants who have committed crimes.”\n<\/p>\n

Andrew Dismukes<\/a>‘ ICE agent then declared, “That is literally the first I am hearing of that.”\n<\/p>\n

When asked what they all thought they were looking for in Minneapolis, Thompson answered, “Epstein files.”\n<\/p>\n

“We actually just released those to distract from this,” Davidson’s Homan said with a grimace. “Which is ironic because we did this to distract from those.”\n<\/p>\n

He then asked the agents, “When do we use force?”\n<\/p>\n

\u201cNope. Think of the opposite,\u201d Davidson’s Homan hinted, to which Dismukes confidently said, “Right\u2014 preemptively.”\n<\/p>\n

After a few more exasperating back-and-forths, Davidson’s Homan declared, “Fellas, look, you gotta do better. Look, I\u2019m Tom Homan.”\n<\/p>\n

At that point, Davidson briefly broke character to laugh before continuing, “I am the separating-families-at-the-border guy. I\u2019m the on-film-taking-a-$50,000-bribe guy. And you all are making me look like the upstanding, reasonable adult in the room. That\u2019s crazy!\u201d\n<\/p>\n

The speech obviously made little impact, as a later exchange included Thompson’s ICE agent getting confused about why destroying evidence was a bad thing.\n<\/p>\n

To conclude the meeting, Davidson’s Homan asked the ICE unit commanders, \u201cSo what did we learn tonight?\u201d\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Johnson guessed, “This could be wrong\u2026 but that you hired a bunch of angry, aggressive guys, gave us guns, and didn\u2019t train us, so this is maybe what you wanted to happen?\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\u201cCome on, man! Don\u2019t start thinking now!\u201d Davidson’s Homan scolded. “The situation out there has been rough, and we need to lower the temperature. So let\u2019s get out there, let\u2019s show some restraint. Let\u2019s do our job without violating anyone\u2019s rights as Americans. Can you do that?\u201d\n<\/p>\n

“No,” Thompson answered candidly.\n<\/p>\n

“Well, I had to ask,\u201d Davidson’s Homan conceded, before offering his real advice for the agents: “Maybe just try not to get filmed.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
