{"id":443517,"date":"2026-02-01T21:35:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T21:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/443517\/"},"modified":"2026-02-01T21:35:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-01T21:35:08","slug":"freezing-temps-impact-water-system-at-ucf-apartments-buildings-reopen-after-residents-displaced-university-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/443517\/","title":{"rendered":"Freezing temps impact water system at UCF apartments; buildings reopen after residents displaced, university says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. \u2013 People staying in the Towers community at the University of Central Florida were displaced Sunday as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/weather\/2026\/02\/01\/still-below-freezing-central-floridas-cold-snap-isnt-over\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/weather\/2026\/02\/01\/still-below-freezing-central-floridas-cold-snap-isnt-over\/\">freezing temperatures<\/a> impacted the chilled water system for three of its four buildings, according to UCF.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The university determined the cause of the issue in Towers 1, 3 and 4, was \u201ca malfunction involving hallway air conditioning units that were recycling freezing outdoor air.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Residents of the Towers were temporarily displaced in order for assessments to be done in surrounding buildings, UCF said in on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/UCFPolice\/status\/2018039149144461740\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow\" title=\"https:\/\/x.com\/UCFPolice\/status\/2018039149144461740\">social media<\/a>. All of the buildings have since been reopened, the university followed up to say before 4 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cRepairs are underway, and all buildings are reopened. We will work directly with residents whose rooms were directly impacted to set them up with a temporary alternative option and academic flexibility,\u201d a UCF spokesperson said in a statement. \u201cWe do not expect any additional disruption to essential utilities or services within the buildings, but university staff will continue monitoring and addressing impact. Our priority throughout continues to be the safety and well-being of our residents. We recognize the inconvenience this caused and appreciate students\u2019 patience and cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Residents with housing-related concerns were directed to contact the UCF Work Control Center at 407-823-5223.
