Joe Brady appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday and said something he immediately wished he hadn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

The new Buffalo Bills<\/a> head coach was explaining his philosophy for his new role when he let slip that he couldn\u2019t wait for the first practice when Josh Allen<\/a> throws an interception so he could celebrate with the defense. Brady wanted to emphasize that he\u2019s a head coach now \u2014 not just an offensive coordinator protecting his side of the ball \u2014 meaning he wants the defense to know he\u2019s in it with them too.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not an offensive head coach. I\u2019m a head coach,\u201d Brady said. \u201cAnd I just told the guys out there, like, I can\u2019t wait for the first practice, to get out there and Josh Allen to throw a f*cking pick, and I get to celebrate with the defense. I can\u2019t wait to talk sh*t with our offensive tackles who get beat. I need them to know that I\u2019m in it with them now. And it\u2019s not like I\u2019m going out to practice and I\u2019m just yelling at the defense. It\u2019s like, no, no, no. Let\u2019s go, and I want them to feel that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Does it make sense in a vacuum? Sure. The 36-year-old Brady is trying to signal he\u2019s no longer the OC anymore, even though he\u2019s still calling plays. But he chose to make that point by talking about celebrating when his franchise quarterback fails, which Ryan Fitzpatrick<\/a> rightfully called BS on.<\/p>\n

\u201cI regretted that,\u201d Brady said during a recent appearance on Fitz & Whit. \u201cCall BS, I do. That\u2019s gonna piss me off. But I regret that, I\u2019m not gonna lie.\u201d<\/p>\n

In trying to prove he\u2019s not Sean McDermott<\/a>, Brady stumbled out of the gate. He\u2019s not the buttoned-up version of a head coach, who\u2019s usually mild-mannered. He\u2019s the cool, young head coach who likes to talk sh*t and celebrate with both sides of the ball.<\/p>\n

And he chose to demonstrate that by publicly fantasizing about Josh Allen throwing interceptions.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a version of being a head coach who calls plays that doesn\u2019t require constantly proving you\u2019re impartial. Andy Reid does it. Kyle Shanahan does it. Sean McVay does it. No one blames them for having expertise on one side of the ball.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to celebrate with the defense, and the only way I can celebrate with the defense is if James Cook fumbles or Josh throws a pick,\u201d Brady continued. \u201cI\u2019ve got to sort through that, but as soon as I said that, I was like, \u2018I\u2019m gonna be pissed off.\u2019 It\u2019s gonna be one of those where I\u2019m celebrating, and then I\u2019m coming back,k and I\u2019m like, \u2018Yo, what are we doing?\u2019 I\u2019ll take it back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brady can\u2019t take back the first impression, but at least he knows it was a sloppy one.<\/p>\n
