{"id":444898,"date":"2026-02-02T16:28:56","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T16:28:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/444898\/"},"modified":"2026-02-02T16:28:56","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T16:28:56","slug":"carlos-alcaraz-complains-over-roof-closure-in-seismic-australian-open-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/444898\/","title":{"rendered":"Carlos Alcaraz complains over roof closure in seismic Australian Open final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/carlos-alcaraz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Carlos Alcaraz;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> was involved in a dispute with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/australian-open\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Australian Open;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Australian Open<\/a> organisers as he was irked by their decision to partially close the roof on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/rod-laver-arena\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Rod Laver Arena;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Rod Laver Arena<\/a> for the tournament final.<\/p>\n<p>The Spaniard lost the first set 6-2 to an inspired <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/novak-djokovic\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Novak Djokovic;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Novak Djokovic<\/a>, before finding his feet in the second and levelling at one set apiece, taking it 6-2.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>The Serb left the court to regroup after being pegged back and Alcaraz looked to complain to umpire John Blom and tournament referee Wayne McKewen over the issue of the roof.<\/p>\n<p>With the threat of rain looming the decision was made to close the roof further before the start of the third set, still leaving it partly open, but Alcaraz appeared frustrated by the decision.<\/p>\n<p>Several pundits agreed with the six-time grand slam champion that as a predominantly outdoor tournament, outdoor conditions should be maintained while it was still dry.<\/p>\n<p>Former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/wimbledon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Wimbledon;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Wimbledon<\/a> champion Pat Cash said on BBC Radio 5 Live: \u201cI agree with Carlos &#8211; if it&#8217;s not raining, open it.
