{"id":445174,"date":"2026-02-02T19:43:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T19:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/445174\/"},"modified":"2026-02-02T19:43:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T19:43:13","slug":"espn-value-revealed-as-30-billion-in-connection-with-nfl-mega-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/445174\/","title":{"rendered":"ESPN Value Revealed as $30 Billion in Connection With NFL Mega Deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/espn\/\" id=\"auto-tag_espn_1\" data-tag=\"espn\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ESPN<\/a> is valued at about $30 billion, with the National Football League\u2019s 10 percent equity stake in the sports media giant securing an estimated fair market value of $3 billion, according to The Walt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/disney-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_disney-2_1\" data-tag=\"disney-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Disney<\/a> Co.\u2019s latest quarterly earnings report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDisney and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/nfl\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nfl_1\" data-tag=\"nfl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NFL<\/a> closed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/espn-nfl-media-major-deal-redzone-1236326849\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">their mega deal<\/a> in the last week, giving the league its non-controlling interest, leaving Disney with 72 percent, and Hearst with 18 percent. According to the company\u2019s 10-Q, Disney will have an option to reacquire the NFL\u2019s stake in ESPN after July 2034, based on the division\u2019s performance, in exchange for a ten-year note at\u00a070 percent of the then fair market value of the NFL\u2019s interest in ESPN. The league, meanwhile, has an option to acquire an additional 4 percent of ESPN on a similar timetable, also at 70 percent market value.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe deal will see ESPN fully own NFL Network, with plans to bake it into the ESPN streaming service. The RedZone channel, meanwhile, will join Disney\u2019s linear portfolio, with Disney also planning to merge its ESPN fantasy football product with NFL Media\u2019s fantasy product. The NFL will also license games, RedZone, NFL Films programming and other content and rights to ESPN, with the sports media company also securing rights to the RedZone brand to use for other sports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tPerhaps most importantly, Disney will be getting the exclusive games that had lived with NFL Network, giving it more inventory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDisney is expected to integrate the NFL\u2019s media assets in the coming weeks and months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re really happy that we were able to close it when we did, that enables us to get started sooner than we actually had anticipated,\u201d Disney CEO Bob Iger told Wall Street analysts Monday. \u201cSo the upcoming NFL season, which will end in ESPN first Super Bowl is a huge opportunity for ESPN, not only in terms of its ability to manage the NFL Network and RedZone, but also with more NFL inventory. And we know how valuable that is, and how valuable it will be, particularly for ESPN streaming business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe quarter also revealed just how vulnerable ESPN remains to the pay-TV ecosystem. All of Disney\u2019s channels, including ESPN, were dark for weeks on YouTube TV last quarter, the company\u2019s longest blackout in its history.
