Sheffield United completed the loan signing of Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City.<\/p>\n
The Athletic reported earlier on Monday that Phillips, 30, was set to undergo a medical ahead of a loan move to the Championship club.<\/p>\n
The deal does not include a buy option.<\/p>\n
Phillips has made one appearance for City this season after returning from a season-long loan at Ipswich Town, coming on for seven minutes in the Carabao Cup against Huddersfield Town.<\/p>\n
He has played 31 times and started just four matches for City since joining the club for \u00a342million ($56.6m) from Leeds United in 2022.<\/p>\n
Phillips spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan at relegated Ipswich, where he played 22 times in all competitions. In the second half of the previous season, he made 10 appearances for West Ham United in a difficult loan spell.<\/p>\n
The midfielder was one of the Premier League\u2019s standout performers for Leeds following their promotion to the top-flight in 2020, while he also impressed for England during their run to the European Championship final in 2021. His most recent England cap came in November 2023.<\/p>\n
The first few months of Phillips\u2019 debut season at City were affected by a shoulder injury which required surgery. Phillips recovered in time to make England\u2019s squad for the World Cup in Qatar, but was omitted from City\u2019s squad after returning from the international competition with head coach Pep Guardiola saying the Englishman was \u201coverweight\u201d<\/a> and not \u201cin the best condition to train and play\u201d. Guardiola later apologised for his comments.<\/p>\n Phillips has remained out of favour under Guardiola and last featured for City in the Premier League in November 2023. His City contract is set to run through to June 2028.<\/p>\n Sheffield United are 17th in the Championship, seven points clear of the relegation zone. The club reached the Championship play-off final last season under Chris Wilder but were beaten at Wembley by Sunderland.
