Oh boy. Things seem to be deteriorating for Tristan Jarry in Edmonton. Did you see his comments after getting pulled from a 7-3 loss to Minnesota on Saturday?<\/p>\n
Whether you\u2019re a goalie, a quarterback or a pitcher \u2014 in other words, the most important guy out there \u2014 the last thing you want to do is insinuate it wasn\u2019t your fault. Especially when you\u2019re new in town.<\/p>\n
Jarry insinuated it wasn\u2019t his fault.<\/p>\n
This is what he told reporters after his latest brutal performance since coming from Pittsburgh, one in which he allowed three \u201cquestionable\u201d goals (sportsnet.ca\u2019s euphemism):<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s tough. The chances we\u2019re giving up, some of the shots, they\u2019re tough. It\u2019s a lot of Grade A\u2019s, a lot of breakdowns.\u201d<\/p>\n
Put that through the what-he-should-have-said translator, and it comes out like this: \u201cI was terrible. They brought me here to win games. I have to be better.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jarry was allergic to big games here. The difference now is he\u2019s in a Cup-or-bust situation. That creates a new kind of pressure.<\/p>\n
His comments didn\u2019t get any better as he spoke.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to play fast \u2026 we want to play in their end,\u201d Jarry said. \u201cWhen we\u2019re taking some of those chances, they come back at us, and it\u2019s tough. We just have to make sure we\u2019re managing the puck a little bit better.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wow. I can\u2019t imagine those quotes going over well in Oilers country. Not with Jarry\u2019s numbers attached to them. He has an .836 save percentage in his past five games and .873 overall. Over a full season that wouldn\u2019t be top-50 in the NHL.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Stuart Skinner \u2014 the goalie in return \u2014 is becoming a fan favorite here. He went 7-1 with a .910 save percentage in January.<\/p>\n
Penguins president of hockey operations\/GM Kyle Dubas looks like a winner by knockout, at least so far. He picked the perfect time to trade Jarry. He also got Brett Kulak, who\u2019s been helpful, and a second-round pick. The Oilers got Sam \u201cThrow In\u201d Poulin.<\/p>\n
