The buzzy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/news\/breaking-news\/jacob-elordi-play-frankenstein-guillermo-del-toro-netflix-film-1234941031\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cFrankenstein\u201d adaptation<\/a> already has dropped a <a data-id=\"1235068381\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/news\/general-news\/guillermo-del-toro-frankenstein-first-look-jacob-elordi-oscar-isaac-1235068381\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">teaser<\/a>, but Elordi\u2019s role was mostly kept hidden in the shadows. Now, a fuller look at the actor\u2019s transformation into the character has been revealed. <\/p>\n<p>Elordi\u2019s monster is reanimated by scientist Victor\u00a0Frankenstein, played by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/oscar-isaac\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oscar Isaac<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/mia-goth\/\" id=\"auto-tag_mia-goth\" data-tag=\"mia-goth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mia Goth<\/a>, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, and Charles Dance co-star. The feature is written and directed by del Toro, and based on Mary Shelley\u2019s \u201cFrankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.\u201d Del Toro, J. Makeup artist\u00a0Mike Hill told <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/story\/frankenstein-monster-jacob-elordi-guillermo-del-toro-oscar-isaac?srsltid=AfmBOop4uKDJqhyzGb2IKQ2SOAusXrGGZ2Olj1A1d44kN3nm_8EnwIKn\">Vanity Fair<\/a>\u00a0that it was Elordi\u2019s physique that really added another layer to the character. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe thing about Jacob is, he just has everything rolled into one,\u201d Hill said. \u201cWhat attracted me to him was his gangliness and his wrists. It was this looseness. Then he has these real somber moments where he watches you really deftly, and his eyelids are low, with the long lashes like Karloff. I was like, \u2018I don\u2019t know who else you could get with a physicality like this.\u2019 His demeanor is innocent, but it\u2019s encompassed in a six-foot-five frame. He could really do a lot of damage if this man really wanted to be a bad guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Del Toro added, \u201cJacob is the most perfect actor for the creature. And we have a supernaturally good connection. It\u2019s like, very few words. Very few things I have to say, and he does it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elordi asked del Toro\u2019s permission to study Boris Karloff\u2019s performance as the monster in director James Whale\u2019s 1930s Universal films. \u201cI devoured all of his monsters,\u201d Elordi said of Karloff. \u201cAt first I thought, I\u2019ll stay away from this. I want to do my own thing.\u2019 And then I asked Guillermo, \u2018Should I watch the other Frankensteins?\u2019 And he goes, \u2018What the fuck do you mean?\u2019 I was like, \u2018Well, I don\u2019t want it to be influenced.\u2019 He says, \u2018My friend, it\u2019s a movie, it can\u2019t fucking hurt you.\u2019 I went home, and I just binged them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elordi added, Something in his gaze, something in the way that he moves\u2026. The biggest thing was just immersing myself in the world of these creatures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elordi previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/features\/interviews\/jacob-elordi-interview-the-narrow-road-to-the-deep-north-1235116057\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told IndieWire<\/a>\u00a0that the cast watched two Frankenstein films from the 1930s as references while filming del Toro\u2019s adaptation. \u201cI think I\u2019ve seen every creature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/film\/\" id=\"auto-tag_film\" data-tag=\"film\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">film<\/a> ever made. Strangely enough, Guillermo gave me a baby book \u2014 a baby development book \u2014 at the start of filming,\u201d Elordi said. \u201c[Those] two references I remember greatly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also teased to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/news\/general-news\/jacob-elordi-teases-guillermo-del-toro-frankenstein-1235045155\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">IndieWire<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cFrankenstein\u201d is going to be \u201cone hell of a movie.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrankenstein\u201d continues Netflix\u2019s partnership with del Toro, including the Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature Film, \u201cGuillermo del Toro\u2019s Pinocchio,\u201d the anthology series \u201cGuillermo del Toro\u2019s Cabinet of Curiosities,\u201d and the animated films \u201cTrollhunters: Rise of the Titans\u201d and \u201cTrollhunters: Tales of Arcadia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrankenstein\u201d premieres on Netflix in November 2025.
