Alex Pretti, 37, was shot and killed on Jan. 24 in Minneapolis — the second shooting of a U.S. citizen last month by federal agents in the city.<\/p>\n

The shooting of Pretti<\/a>, an ICU nurse, ratcheted up tensions, as protesters clashed in the streets with law enforcement in the aftermath of the shooting.<\/p>\n

The incident followed the fatal shooting of Renee Good<\/a>, a 37-year-old mother, on Jan. 7.<\/p>\n

The two brothers of Renee Good, the 37-year-old Minneapolis woman killed by a federal immigration officer in January, spoke on Capitol Hill Tuesday, telling lawmakers of the effect their sister’s death had on their family.<\/p>\n

Renee Good’s brothers Luke Ganger and Brent Ganger, and an attorney representing the family, spoke at a forum on federal agents’ use of force in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

“The deep distress our family feels because of Renee’s loss in such a violent and unnecessary way is complicated by feelings of disbelief, distress and desperation for change,” said one brother, Luke Ganger.<\/p>\n

Luke and Brent Ganger’s remarks were part of a special public forum organized by Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Rep. Robert Garcia of D-Calif., as part of an inquiry into the tactics and use of force by Department of Homeland Security agents.<\/p>\n

Every Homeland Security officer in Minneapolis is now being issued a body-worn camera, Noem says<\/p>\n

Every Homeland Security officer on the ground, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, will be immediately issued body-worn cameras, Secretary Kristi Noem said Monday.<\/p>\n

Every Homeland Security officer on the ground, including ICE officers, will be immediately issued body-worn cameras, Secretary Noem said Monday.<\/p>\n

Noem made the announcement on the social media platform X. She said the body-worn camera program is being expanded nationwide as funding becomes available.<\/p>\n

“We will rapidly acquire and deploy body cameras to DHS law enforcement across the country,” Noem said in the social media post.<\/p>\n

The news of the body cameras comes as Minneapolis has been the site of intense scrutiny over the conduct of immigration enforcement agents. There have been increased calls by critics of Homeland Security to require all of the department’s officers who are responsible for immigration enforcement to wear body cameras.<\/p>\n

President Joe Biden ordered in 2022 that federal law enforcement officers wear body cameras as part of an executive order that included other policing reform measures. President Donald Trump had rescinded that directive after starting his second term.<\/p>\n

Alex Pretti’s death ruled a homicide by medical examiner<\/p>\n

Alex Pretti’s official manner of death has been ruled a homicide by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, a report shows.<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old nurse’s cause of death was “multiple gunshot wounds,” according to the report.<\/p>\n

Attorney General announces 2 more arrests in St. Paul church protest<\/p>\n

Pam Bondi announced it on social media without providing details. Nine people have now been arrested following a protest inside a Minnesota church. They were named in a grand jury indictment unsealed Friday.<\/p>\n

Independent journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort were among four people arrested Friday, following the arrest of local activist Nekima Levy Armstrong.<\/p>\n

A grand jury in Minnesota indicted all nine on federal civil rights charges of conspiracy and interfering with the First Amendment rights of worshippers during the Jan. 18 protest at the Cities Church in St. Paul, where a pastor at the church doubles as a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement official.<\/p>\n
