{"id":447546,"date":"2026-02-04T00:44:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T00:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/447546\/"},"modified":"2026-02-04T00:44:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T00:44:13","slug":"what-new-disney-ceo-josh-damaro-means-for-movie-studio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/447546\/","title":{"rendered":"What New Disney CEO Josh D&#8217;Amaro Means For Movie Studio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWith <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/disney\/\" id=\"auto-tag_disney\" data-tag=\"disney\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Disney<\/a> officially naming Disney Experiences chairman <a data-id=\"1236707115\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/02\/disney-ceo-josh-damaro-bob-iger-1236707115\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Josh D\u2019Amaro as CEO<\/a> and the successor to Bob Iger and <a data-id=\"1236707221\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/02\/dana-walden-disney-film-oversight-glass-ceiling-intact-1236707221\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dana Walden as President and Chief Creative Officer<\/a>, one of the questions that remains is what do the moves mean for the company\u2019s film division, given that neither D\u2019Amaro nor Walden have strong ties to that side of the business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDeadline has confirmed that as part of Walden\u2019s new role, her former co-Disney Entertainment co-chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/alan-bergman\/\" id=\"auto-tag_alan-bergman\" data-tag=\"alan-bergman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alan Bergman<\/a> will now report to her, while all other major leaders under the film umbrella will continue to report to Bergman. That list includes Disney live-action and 20th Century chief David Greenbaum and Marvel Studios president <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/kevin-feige\/\" id=\"auto-tag_kevin-feige\" data-tag=\"kevin-feige\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kevin Feige<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWhile her expertise lies in television, when it comes to managing talent relationships there are few executives who have had a better track record than Walden, and her reputation for listening to the creative community and serving as a buffer between the business and creative sides of the company should only help in garnering favor. Studio insiders go on to add that Walden and Bergman already have strong ties after sharing the Co-Chairman title for the past couple years and that relationship will help strengthen the film side of the company<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSources say that in regards to D\u2019Amaro, there is already a feeling he an Iger-like charismatic side that should go over well with people in the film world. While insiders are hopeful, some are wary of a \u201cChapek 2.0 situation,\u201d referring to former Disney CEO Bob Chapek, who also headed up Parks and Experiences prior to his CEO promotion but had his share of battles with the film community during his short tenure as Iger\u2019s replacement from 2020-2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWhile Chapek had plenty of obstacles to overcome (he took over Disney the day before the world was shut down by Covid), he did himself no favors with how he handled messaging about Disney\u2019s long-term plans for the film business, including being vocal in messaging to creatives about how Disney would like to send less product to theaters and more to Disney+. There were also internal battles with talent, including a very public lawsuit between Disney and its Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson, who sued the company for breach of contract claiming the simultaneous theatrical and Disney+ release of\u00a0the 2021 Marvel movie violated her agreement for an exclusive theatrical release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe missteps would eventually result in Chapek\u2019s exit and the return of Iger, who cooled tensions in the film community with a re-embrace of theatrical. Since then, Disney has remained the top studio at the box office, taking the domestic and global market share crown again in 2025 with a near $6.6 billion worldwide led by Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe movie division\u2019s success led off Disney\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/02\/zootopia-2-china-box-office-disney-1236705894\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Q1 2026 earnings<\/a> call earlier this week, with Iger giving Bergman and his team a shout-out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThere will be movie-side questions that need to be addressed once D\u2019Amaro and Walden settle in, including around Marvel and Feige. Marvel is the one division that hasn\u2019t seen an overhaul in exec changes since Iger\u2019s return \u2014 Disney announced in January that Kathleen Kennedy is handing over Lucasfilm\u2019s leadership to Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan, and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/02\/disney-sean-bailey-exits-david-greenbaum-searchlight-1235838865\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Greenbaum was elevated<\/a> in February 2024 \u2014 and Feige\u2019s future at the company is always a topic the town loves to gossip about.
