The Project Wide Advisory Committee is considering paying for the extension of cart paths at three executive golf courses.<\/p>\n

The locations being considered are:<\/p>\n

Sandhill Executive Golf Course \u2013 Hole #5<\/p>\n

Longleaf Executive Golf Course \u2013 Hole #3<\/p>\n

Lowlands Executive Golf Course \u2013 Hole #2<\/p>\n

\u201cThe primary purpose of adding full-length cart paths is to protect turf conditions and reduce course closures during wet weather. Without continuous paths, staff cannot enforce a \u2018Golf Car Path Only\u2019 rule, which forces full course closures during inclement conditions,\u201d Assistant District Manager Bruce Brown said in a memo to PWAC members.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently, at these three courses we also prohibit four carts per group to limit turf damage. In contrast, all other Executive Courses\u2014with continuous paths\u2014allow four carts and can shift to \u2018path only\u2019 restrictions when needed. This flexibility is highly valued by residents, who prefer using their own carts in a foursome,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Sandhill project would cost $59,390, the Longleaf extension would cost $80,090 and the Lowlands cost would be $61,925.<\/p>\n

Supervisor Dale Martin, representing Community Development District 12 on PWAC, has expressed concerns about the cost and has argued that because the courses are a Par Four, once individuals pass the green tee, carts often enter onto the fairway, and restricting the golf carts to the paths can be very difficult to enforce. He said he fears the money would be spent on extensions that would see rare usage.<\/p>\n

Director of Executive Golf Maintenance Donald Jones said the idea for the extensions came as the result of resident feedback and the reduction of wear and tear on the courses caused by repeated cart traffic along the same routes.<\/p>\n

PWAC will meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the SeaBreeze Recreation Center.<\/p>\n
