\n\tPatti LuPone<\/a> has spoken out against President Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s looming plans for the Kennedy Center<\/a>, calling for the public to band together <\/a>in an effort to halt his proposed alterations to the building\u2019s name and architecture.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Monday, following the acclaimed actress and singer\u2019s two-hour show at Carnegie Hall in New York City, LuPone took time to share her thoughts regarding the president\u2019s recent declarations about the Washington, D.C., landmark. Addressing the crowd, she called for solidarity in a time of perceived sociopolitical crisis.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis is now about the Kennedy Center. It\u2019s time for us \u2014 it\u2019s over time for us! \u2014 to rise up and speak,\u201d she said emphatically, urging the audience to \u201cget the information out\u201d that Trump \u201ccannot! cannot! cannot! touch the Kennedy Center!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tVisibly impassioned, LuPone apologized for the tone of her message but remained adamant about the importance of American citizens ensuring that the Kennedy Center is not obstructed.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m sorry, but I\u2019m so mad,\u201d the famed performer <\/a>continued. \u201cThis actually strikes close to home because art is the soul of the nation. And think about it \u2014 when was the last time you heard the words \u2018art\u2019 and \u2018culture\u2019 in a conversation in this country? We have to speak up again. We have to elevate it, and one of the ways we\u2019re going to elevate it is to keep the buildings standing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTrump, whose wish to rename the Kennedy Center \u201cThe Donald J. Trump and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts\u201d was granted via a vote <\/a>by presidentially appointed board members late last year, recently announced that the Kennedy Center will close for two years to undergo renovations.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m not ripping it down,\u201d Trump told reporters Monday. \u201cI\u2019ll be using the steel. So we\u2019re using the structure, we\u2019re using some of the marble, and some of the marble comes down.\u201d<\/p>\n
