\n\tApple TV<\/a>\u2018s upcoming \u201cCape Fear<\/a>\u201d series starring Javier Bardem<\/a>, Amy Adams<\/a> and Patrick Wilson will premiere with two episodes on June 5. The images were unveiled at Apple TV\u2019s 2026 Press Day on Feb. 3, as well as a teaser that played only in the room. Creator and showrunner Nick Antosca moderated a panel with Wilson and Wilson.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 10-episode drama series is based on John D. MacDonald\u2019s 1957 novel \u201cThe Executioners\u201d as well as Martin Scorsese\u2019s 1991 film \u201cCape Fear,\u201d which was a remake of Gregory Peck\u2019s 1962 adaptation of the novel. Scorsese is an executive producer on the new series, as is Steven Spielberg, who executive produced Scorsese\u2019s adaptation.<\/p>\n

\n\tAntosca introduced the panel by talking about how much Scorsese\u2019s movie scared him \u2014\u00a0which Wilson and Adams agreed with \u2014\u00a0saying, \u201cthere\u2019s a kind of feverish energy to it,\u201d and \u201cit\u2019s Southern, it\u2019s swampy \u2014 it looks like a nightmare.\u201d Antosca said that he didn\u2019t want to spoil any twists, but that the original story has been \u201creimagined.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn this version of the story, which examines \u201cAmerica\u2019s obsession with true crime in the 21st century\u201d according to an official description, \u201ca storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden (Wilson) when Max Cady (Bardem), the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is let out of prison \u2014 and he wants vengeance.\u201d The ensemble cast also includes CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, Anna Baryshnikov, Ron Perlman, Ted Levine and Margarita Levieva.<\/p>\n

\n\tAntosca asked Adams and Wilson about how they captured the story\u2019s \u201celemental terror,\u201d and they talked about being parents trying to protect their children at all costs \u2014 \u201cfull stop,\u201d Adams said.<\/p>\n

\n\tAdams said that Bardem brought his \u201cnatural charisma\u201d to the role of Max Cady, made iconic in the films by Robert Mitchum and Robert DeNiro. But Bardem put a twist on the villain role, Adams said: \u201cHe also brings a lot of vulnerability, and there\u2019s so much devastation in this betrayal. I look forward to you guys getting to see it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAntosca considers the Scorsese film to be firmly in the horror genre, a tone that inspired the series as well. \u201cThe first moment the show, to me, is about ambient dread,\u201d Antosca said. \u201cAnd it reflects the atmosphere of being alive in 2026, with its uncertainties and ambiguities and paranoia.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlong with Scorsese and Spielberg, executive producers include Antosca and Alex Hedlund via Eat the Cat; Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey for Spielberg\u2019s Amblin Television banner; Bardem; Adams; and Morten Tyldum, who also served as director on the pilot. The series was developed and produced through Universal Studio Group\u2019s Universal Content Productions, where Antosca has been under an overall deal since 2017.<\/p>\n
