{"id":449051,"date":"2026-02-04T19:26:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T19:26:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/449051\/"},"modified":"2026-02-04T19:26:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T19:26:11","slug":"cloudx-hits-ga-with-plans-to-rewire-the-mobile-ad-stack-using-ai-agents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/449051\/","title":{"rendered":"CloudX Hits GA With Plans To Rewire The Mobile Ad Stack Using AI Agents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CloudX \u2013\u00a0a startup co-founded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adexchanger.com\/mobile\/former-mopub-execs-launch-max-a-solution-for-in-app-header-bidding\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the guys who co-founded MoPub and MAX<\/a> \u2013 is using LLMs agents, \u201cintelligent monetization\u201d and a trusted execution environment to make the mobile ad stack behave more like programmable infrastructure than another AI-powered SSP.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a lot of zeitgeisty buzzwords all at once.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the jargon-free condensed version: CloudX CEO and Co-Founder Jim Payne wants to take the pain (sorry, had to) out of mobile ad monetization and automate a lot of the tedious busywork that usually falls to engineers and ad ops.        &#13;\n        <\/p>\n<p>            <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/advertisement2.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>CloudX, which launched into general availability on Wednesday, had been in beta for most of Q4 with a small group of mobile publishers that were willing to let agents handle the grunt work of setting up and maintaining their stacks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a limit to what a single ad monetization person can do, just from a tactical perspective,\u201d Payne said. \u201cThat\u2019s where our notion of \u2018intelligent monetization\u2019 comes from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MoPub 2.0<\/p>\n<p>MoPub \u2013 which Payne co-founded in 2010 and later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adexchanger.com\/mobile\/twitter-buys-mopub-becomes-a-mobile-ad-exchange\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sold to Twitter<\/a> before the business was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adexchanger.com\/mobile\/applovin-acquires-mopub-from-twitter-for-just-over-1-billion-in-cash\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">acquired by AppLovin<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/investors.applovin.com\/news\/news-details\/2022\/AppLovin-Closes-Acquisition-of-Twitters-MoPub-Business\/default.aspx\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">shut down in 2022<\/a> \u2013\u00a0was a mobile ad exchange and mediation platform that let app publishers tap into programmatic demand and manage their own in-app inventory.<\/p>\n<p>Think of CloudX as MoPub\u2019s spiritual successor.<\/p>\n<p>The basic goal is similar, which is to help app publishers make money from their inventory, but the underlying approach has been updated for a more agentic way of running the stack. Rather than just automating the auction, the idea here is to use agents to tweak floors, line items and demand paths based on real-time performance data.<\/p>\n<p>Agents can bridge the gap between a high-level strategy and the day-to-day mechanics of implementing a monetization regime, Payne said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe now have something that can keep up with the throughput of programmatic advertising \u2013\u00a0you know, billions of impressions a day \u2013\u00a0and still be smart at that scale,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s where we see the opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"d-block float-end font-heading btn btn-sm btn-primary ms-2 text-bg-primary\" role=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adexchanger.com\/newsletter\/?utm_campaign=subscribe&amp;utm_medium=web&amp;utm_source=ad&amp;utm_term=house&amp;utm_content=subscribe\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><br \/>\n        Subscribe<\/p>\n<p>    <\/a><br \/>\n    AdExchanger Daily<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-0\">Get our editors\u2019 roundup delivered to your inbox every weekday.<\/p>\n<p>Cloud control<\/p>\n<p>In a typical setup, someone \u2013 usually an ad ops person \u2013 has to create and update line items, map IDs back and forth between networks, set floors and keep revising those settings in a dashboard.<\/p>\n<p>Payne\u2019s pitch is that publishers can define a high-level strategy for how they want to monetize, and then agents can handle much of that configuration and make ongoing adjustments in the background.<\/p>\n<p>For example, CloudX has an agent for handling SDK integrations, another for setting up and testing ad formats, one for creating line items on the server and an orchestration agent \u201cto make sure all the work is done properly,\u201d Payne said.<\/p>\n<p>Publishers can also add CloudX into their existing stack, he said, so they\u2019re able to continue honoring previous arrangements while using CloudX to take care of additional demand and configuration work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the thing we\u2019re getting the most excited reception about from publishers,\u201d Payne said, \u201cthat they don\u2019t have to go back into the past where they were spending eight or even 10 hours a day operating the MoPub tool, pasting things in, getting it wrong and leaving revenue on the table because these errors would just go unnoticed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trust, but verify<\/p>\n<p>But CloudX is also trying to address a more elemental question, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adexchanger.com\/programmatic\/the-mrc-wants-ad-tech-to-get-honest-about-how-auctions-really-work\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">whether buyers can trust the auctions they\u2019re bidding into<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Payne, many buyers are wary of exchanges that sit too close to a publisher\u2019s own stack because of concerns about signal leakage and how publishers might use information about losing bids. A losing bid can offer clues about a buyer\u2019s bidding strategy and reveal how much they\u2019re willing to pay for certain users and impressions.<\/p>\n<p>This arrangement creates \u201ca trust issue,\u201d Payne said.<\/p>\n<p>CloudX runs its auctions inside of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adexchanger.com\/tag\/trusted-execution-environment\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">trusted execution environment<\/a> (TEE), which is the secure area of a main processor where code can run safely and in isolation. Inside the TEE, buyers can inspect the auction code and set rules for how to handle bids and signals, while publishers get dynamic price floors, log-level access and real-time analytics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s designed to bring in incremental programmatic demand in a way that\u2019s safe,\u201d Payne said. \u201cWe can guarantee cryptographically that there\u2019s no signal loss and no games being played, [which] can be verified by the buyer at any time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those sensitivities aren\u2019t theoretical. Meta, for example \u2013\u00a0one of CloudX\u2019s launch partners alongside Liftoff and Magnite \u2013 raised its concerns early on, back when CloudX was still just a product concept. They came up with the idea together of using a TEE.<\/p>\n<p>Once that system was in place, Meta felt comfortable enough to join the CloudX marketplace, and Payne said he expects other large buyers to follow suit. CloudX also recently added InMobi, Mintegral, Moloco and Unity to its partner roster.<\/p>\n<p>For Payne, CloudX, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adweek.com\/media\/adtech-founders-raise-30-million-to-automate-mobile-ads-for-publishers\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">which raised a $30 million Series A in November<\/a> and has a team of roughly two dozen people, is a reentry of sorts into ad tech.<\/p>\n<p>After MoPub, he stepped away from the space for a while, investing and watching from the sidelines as programmatic matured. \u201cI sort of hung it up for a second,\u201d he said.
