Better than an ordinary album reissue, the 3LP\u00a0Europe \u201c90\u201d box set will feature a long-lost studio session and live recording of what guitarist Mickey \u201cDean Ween\u201d Melchiondo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jambase.com\/article\/dean-ween-1990-best-ween-show-basel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">considers<\/a> \u201cthe best Ween show of all-time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Set for release on April 18th for Record Store Day 2026, Ween\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/recordstoreday.com\/SpecialRelease\/19958\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Europe \u201c90\u201d<\/a> features the studio session from Eindhoven, the Netherlands on Christmas Day 1990. During this time, Dean and Aaron \u201cGene Ween\u201d Freeman were touring Europe as a duo in support of their 1990 debut album, GodWeenSatan: The Oneness, and living in their tour manager Rene De Wever\u2018s apartment in Holland from September 1990 through March of \u201991. As Deaner wrote in 2018, they \u201cwould jump off to other countries in his Renault Le Car with our tape deck and play gigs for gas and shelter, the three of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The session includes previously unreleased studio recordings of Ween\u2019s surprise breakout MTV hit \u201cPush the Lil\u2019 Daises\u201d, plus \u201cCover it with Gas and Set it on Fire\u201d, \u201cAlbino Sunburn Girl\u201d, and \u201cI Wuz Nothin&#8217;\u201d, which never made it onto official releases but became live regulars over the years. Ween busted out \u201cI Wuz Nothin&#8217;\u201d for the first time in two decades at the band\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/liveforlivemusic.com\/news\/ween-las-vegas-10-1-2-3-21\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2021 Las Vegas run<\/a>, though vocal duties <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=H18Y38i2BTs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">switched from Gene to Dean<\/a> in the ensuing years.<\/p>\n<p>As for the live component, LPs two and three consist of\u00a0The Reality of Brown: Live in Basel. The exact venue and date for this show are unknown, but Deaner does know there were zero people in the audience when the show started. By the end of the hour-plus concert, the crowd had grown to a whopping five attendees. When Mickey gifted an audio recording of the show to fans on his birthday in 2018, he remarked, \u201cthis is the reality of Brown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He wrote, in full,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">ween\u2014basel, ch \u2014 So\u2026\u2026if you think you\u2019re down with the brown\u2026.old school\u2026\u2026this is the reality of Brown. We rolled into Basel Switzerland while promoting our first album by touring Europe from September of 1990 to March of 1991. We lived in our tour manager\u2019s apartment (Rene De Wever) in Eindhoven, Holland for 6 MONTHS and would jump off to other countries in his Renault Le Car with our tape deck and play gigs for gas and shelter, the three of us. This is us in Basel, Switzerland in front of NO PEOPLE (except Rene), until the end of the gig when we had 5 people. Our sound guy was named Pidah, and this is the best Ween show of all time. On my birthday I GIVE IT TO YOU. I\u2019ve submitted this for consideration as a live Ween record and no one has ever gotten back to me \u2014 so here it is\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026..I humbly lay this at your feet\u2026\u2026\u2026listen up and learn what Brown can do for you\u2026..this is pure Ween\u2026\u2026..<\/p>\n<p>Eight years later, Mickey has finally gotten his wish for the 1990 Basel show to become an official live release. While not the reunion announcement for which many fans had hoped\u2014hopes fueled by a rather provocative post on the band\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=1440657090751540&amp;set=a.263523528464908\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">social media<\/a> account\u2014this nonetheless gives the impression that Deaner is active in the Weeniverse. The genre-shifting heroes of the alternative underground decided to \u201cstep away from the stage for the foreseeable future\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/liveforlivemusic.com\/news\/ween-step-away-from-the-stage-for-foreseeable-future-dean-ween-mental-health\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">August 2024<\/a> out of concern for guitarist\u00a0Mickey \u201cDean Ween\u201d Melchiondo\u2018s mental health.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s post contained the band\u2019s iconic symbol, the Boognish, and the simple caption, \u201cIs this thing on, mang?\u201d And that\u2019s it. But that hasn\u2019t stopped fans and music bloggers from running wild with theories that this could mean the return of Deaner,\u00a0Aaron \u201cGene Ween\u201d Freeman,\u00a0Dave Dreiwitz,\u00a0Claude Coleman Jr., and\u00a0Glenn McClelland\u00a0to the stage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>Ween hasn\u2019t posted online since October 2025, announcing the vinyl reissue of 2000 odds n\u2019 ends compilation\u00a0Shinola, Vol. 1 on vinyl for Record Store Day Black Friday. To be devil\u2019s advocate, and a wet blanket, there is a chance this post could be hyping up another release for this year\u2019s main Record Store Day on April 18th, whose full list of releases should arrive any day now. But, given the post\u2019s provocative caption and fans\u2019 desperate search to be thrown a crumb of anything pointing to a Ween reunion, it\u2019d be pretty lousy to spark their hope just for a White Pepper vinyl reissue (though that\u2019d still be cool).<\/p>\n<p>Ween was due to mount a 14-date 40th anniversary tour in 2024, plus a Chocolate and Cheese 30th-anniversary celebration in Philadelphia, for the band\u2019s biggest tour since <a href=\"https:\/\/liveforlivemusic.com\/news\/ween-reunion-anniversary-video\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">its 2016 reunion<\/a> following a four-year breakup. Ahead of a seven-show leg through the Southeast, however, Ween <a href=\"https:\/\/liveforlivemusic.com\/news\/ween-april-2024-tour-dates-canceled\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">abruptly canceled<\/a> the first half of the tour, with Deaner writing, \u201cAt this moment in time though I need to step away from performing live in order to preserve my mental and spiritual well being, and instead focus on myself and loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A few months later, Ween <a href=\"https:\/\/liveforlivemusic.com\/news\/ween-return-makin-love-in-the-gravy-montana-8-2-3-24\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">returned to the stage<\/a> for two nights in Missoula, MT, and a show in Spokane, WA. That same week, the band shared a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/liveforlivemusic.com\/news\/ween-unreleased-demos-chocolate-and-cheese-30-year-reissue\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chocolate and Cheese anniversary reissue<\/a> with 15 additional tracks, including some never-before-released demos. Things looked bright for Ween, only for the band to wipe its entire calendar mid-tour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is with sincere regret and heavy hearts that Ween must make the decision to step away from the stage for the foreseeable future,\u201d the band <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C_QaP3bhNDN\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a> on August 29th, 2024. \u201cThis includes next month\u2019s sold-out Chocolate and Cheese 25th [sic] Anniversary show at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia. Despite three great shows this summer, it\u2019s become clear that touring and performing is too taxing on Deaner\u2019s mental health to continue. Then, in a feel-good story for the hiatus era, Deaner and Gener\u2019s kids Michael and\u00a0Ashton Freeman <a href=\"https:\/\/liveforlivemusic.com\/news\/gene-dean-ween-kids-we-are-not-ween-show-3-29-25\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">played a show together<\/a> in Lambertville, NJ, just across the Delaware River from Ween\u2019s birthplace of New Hope, PA.
