Gavin Newsom is the latest figure to be roasted by \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d in a new installment of its \u201cDaily Showography\u201d series \u2014 this one tracks the California governor\u2019s personal and political scandals. The seven-minute segment will air as part of Wednesday night\u2019s broadcast of the Comedy Central talk show.<\/p>\n
Presented as an awards-season \u201cfor your consideration\u201d spot, the satirical biography ribs Newsom for being a \u201cleading man\u201d who is \u201cnow playing in select venues, but is preparing to be released nationwide\u201d \u2014 a reference to the likelihood of his 2028 presidential bid.<\/p>\n

The narrator of the segment pokes fun at Newsom\u2019s \u201cclassic rags to riches story\u201d \u2014 quoting the governor as saying, \u201cMy father, his closest friends in the world were some of the richest families in the world\u201d \u2014 before quipping, \u201cFine, he\u2019s a nepo baby, but so is Dakota Johnson and we love her.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Daily Show\u201d then chronicles Newsom\u2019s post-college years, when he started a wine company \u201cwith nothing but his grit, his refined palate and the financial backing of an oil tycoon.\u201d Says the snarky narrator: \u201cThings were finally starting to work out for this tall, handsome, athletic, well-connected young man.\u201d<\/p>\n
Newsom then \u201clanded his biggest role to date\u201d as mayor of San Francisco. \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d acknowledges Newsom\u2019s role in advancing the legalization of same-sex marriage while simultaneously skewering him for having an affair with the wife of one of his staffers.<\/p>\n
Most of all, the \u201cbiofilm\u201d mocks Newsom for his failures to end California\u2019s homelessness crisis or build high-speed rail from San Francisco to Los Angeles. In the video, Newsom is clipped again and again \u2014 from 2010 to 2025 \u2014 promising to solve these persistent issues. (A fast train connecting the state\u2019s two biggest cities is still a pipe dream, with Newsom recently boasting about construction on a rail line in Central California. \u201cSoon, this futuristic bullet train will take people from the thriving hub of Merced all the way to the shining metropolis of Bakersfield,\u201d the narrator quips.)<\/p>\n
Of course, no roast of Newsom would be complete without mentioning his pandemic setbacks, including the French Laundry scandal and the recall election. \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d has an idea for why Newsom was ultimately re-elected: \u201cLuckily, the COVID vaccine meant he could show his whole face again, so he won easily.\u201d<\/p>\n
The segment concludes with Newsom\u2019s ascent to becoming a 2028 frontrunner, asking viewers to \u201cconsider Gavin Newsom: a screen-ready Christian Bale type \u2026 he\u2019s more than a politician; he\u2019s a leading man.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Daily Showography\u201d has also produced segments skewering Joe Rogan<\/a>, Jeff Bezos, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Marco Rubio and Vladimir Putin.
