Tate McRae<\/a> has revealed where her loyalties lie after the Canadian pop star raised eyebrows for appearing in a 2026 Winter Olympics<\/a> ad with Team U.S.A.<\/p>\n

In response to online commenters criticizing her show of support for the American team instead of cheering for the Great White North in a new NBC and Peacock commercial promoting the opening ceremony, the 22-year-old singer made it clear that no matter what the ad showed, she plans to root for her home country. <\/p>\n

McRae reassured her fans by sharing a throwback picture to her as a child holding a tiny Canadian flag on her Instagram Story Wednesday, writing: \u201c…y\u2019all know I\u2019m Canada down.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, McRae<\/a> had posted the controversial advertisement to Instagram, writing: \u201cGo sports! Watch the #WinterOlympics Opening Ceremony Friday and #SBLX Sunday on NBC and Peacock.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the clip, which prominently features the American flag throughout, McRae skis up to a directional sign with an owl perched on top. \u201cOh hi, I\u2019m a bit lost,\u201d she says, taking off her helmet to introduce herself. <\/p>\n

\u201cTate McRae. Oh, I\u2019m nobody. Nobody\u2019s girl, that is,\u201d she adds with a wink, referencing her 2025 song \u201cNobody\u2019s Girl.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m trying to get to Milan for an amazing opening ceremony and meet Team USA. Then, it\u2019s the weekend with America\u2019s best skating for gold<\/a>, and Lindsey Vonn\u2019s epic comeback,\u201d she notes. \u201cThen back to the States for the big game: Super Bowl 60.\u201d <\/p>\n

The partnership drew mixed reactions, with some people criticizing the singer for promoting another nation\u2019s team.<\/p>\n

\u201cGirl you\u2019re Canadian,\u201d one wrote, while a second joked: \u201cYeah u really are lost.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe very American Tate Mcrae,\u201d a third quipped. \u201cLove you but I think you forgot what team you\u2019re on,\u201d another said. <\/p>\n

Some were more offended by her endorsement of Team USA, especially amid the current tense political climate between America and Canada following Donald Trump\u2019s calls for the country to join the U.S. as the \u201c51st state.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cNo amount of money could make me endorse the country that threatens mine,\u201d one insisted. <\/p>\n

\u201cInteresting choice to not support Canada. Disappointed,\u201d a second added. \u201cWhy are you doing this for America?\u201d another questioned. <\/p>\n

The Independent has contacted McRae\u2019s representative for comment. <\/p>\n

The 2026 Winter Olympics are taking place in Milan and Cortina, Italy, with early events already underway ahead of Saturday\u2019s opening ceremony<\/a>. <\/p>\n

This year\u2019s show is themed around \u201cHarmony\u201d to represent the two Italian host cities. It will welcome Mariah Carey as the headliner, in addition to featured performances from Andrea Bocelli, Laura Pausini, Ghali, Cecilia Bartoli, Sabrina Impacciatore and Lang Lang.<\/p>\n

In addition to the show-stopping performances, expect to see plenty of celebrities at the games, including Snoop Dogg, who is Team USA\u2019s first honorary coach and will be part of NBC\u2019s coverage team.<\/p>\n
