While promoting his upcoming movie The Pickup, Eddie Murphy talked to Screen Rant<\/a> about his Donkey standalone movie from the Shrek universe<\/a>, as well as where things are with the fifth movie in the Shrek franchise.<\/p>\n

Regarding Shrek 5<\/a>, Murphy said that he and his co-stars, including Mike Myers (Shrek), Cameron Diaz (Princess Fiona), and newcomer Zendaya (as Shrek\u2019s daughter),<\/a> are still recording dialogue. \u201cWe\u2019re still in the booth, and literally, we\u2019re still doing Shrek,\u201d he said and added that soon after he\u2019ll be shifting his focus to his spin-off.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe start in September on Donkey, we\u2019re doing a Donkey one, and that\u2019ll be three years from now, but we\u2019re about two years into Shrek 5. Still in the booth and about to start Donkey in September.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if it was going to be a television show, the actor responded, \u201cNo, Donkey\u2019s going to be like how Puss in Boots had his own movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued. \u201cDonkey\u2019s going to have his own movie, [his] own little story with his dragon wife and his kids that are half-dragon and half-donkeys. They\u2019ve written this funny story. We\u2019re doing that, starting that in September.\u201d<\/p>\n

We\u2019re excited to see how the upcoming movie will explore the \u201cDronkey\u201d family dynamics with Donkey\u2019s likely grown brood of winged compact horse children. And if there\u2019s potential to learn more about Donkey\u2019s dragon wife, we\u2019re ready for it.<\/p>\n
