With the 2026 World Baseball Classic set to begin in March, the preliminary roster for Taiwan is here. Initial rosters are subject to change. Read on below for our team summary and breakdown of top players and prospects to know.<\/p>\n

Team Summary: One of the darkhorse teams to advance beyond pool play, Taiwan has an under-the-radar collection of young talent led by Athletics lefthanded pitching prospect Wei-En Lin<\/a>. In fact, the Taiwan roster features a strong A\u2019s contingent with Lin joined by fellow Athletics Tzu-Chen Sha<\/a> and Chen Zhong-Ao Zhuang<\/a> in the rotation. While the lineup can\u2019t match the firepower of the top teams in the tournament, they do have a nice collection of current, former and future MLB players in Yu Chang<\/a>, Tsung-Che Cheng<\/a>, Hao-Yu Lee<\/a>, Tzu-Wei Lin<\/a>, Stuart Fairchild and Jonathon Long<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Top Players: Tsung-Che Cheng made his MLB debut with the Pirates in 2025, playing in three games and getting seven plate appearances. He was designated for assignment by the Nationals later in the season but is Taiwan\u2019s only current big leaguer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Best Prospects: Wei-En Lin was one of the breakout prospects of 2025<\/a> in minor league baseball. Despite limited power across his arsenal, he has a variety of good shapes he can land in the zone with regularity.<\/p>\n

Jonathon Long is on the cusp of the big leagues and could make a name for himself prior to his MLB debut with an inspired performance for Taiwan. Long has a nice blend of bat-to-ball skills and power with the ability to make standout plays at first base. Hao-Yu Lee was added to the Tigers\u2019 40-man roster this offseason after spending all of 2025 with Triple-A Toledo. He has a high level of experience and success to potentially help lead Taiwan to a surprising result in the tournament. He has above-average bat-to-ball skills, a strong approach and more hard contact than you\u2019d expect based on his home run totals.\u00a0<\/p>\n
