One day last June, Kendra and her family\u2019s life changed forever \u2014 and along with it, so too did the fate of a bedraggled little \u201cgremlin.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had just gotten back from running errands, and my husband saw him outside through the window. He was so tiny,\u201d Kendra told The Dodo. \u201cI ran out to see if I could scoop him up. But as soon as he heard our door open, he ran up to us!\u201d<\/p>\n

There at their feet was the scruffiest stray kitten.<\/p>\n

Kendra was quick to offer food to the hungry visitor, who ate it up ravenously as she examined his body.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis condition was absolutely shocking. We initially thought he might have mange,\u201d Kendra said. \u201cHe was in such poor shape, we often wonder how the heck he survived as long as he did on his own!\u201d<\/p>\n

Kendra and her family knew they had to help<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe couldn\u2019t just leave him,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

After taking the kitten to the vet, Kendra and her family were informed that the cat had a severe case of ringworm<\/a> \u2014 a painful, contagious fungal skin infection that caused his hair to grow patchy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe vet said it was the worst case of ringworm he\u2019d ever seen,\u201d Kendra said.<\/p>\n

Back at home, Kendra and her family began treating the kitten with medicated baths to fight off the infection. He\u2019d need one every three days going forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a slog,\u201d Kendra said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the family named the cat Cosmo \u2014 but Kendra grew fond of calling him \u201cthe sweetest little gremlin.\u201d He\u2019d be a part of their family forever.<\/p>\n

And after many medicated baths and rigorous cleaning of everything he touched, the cat\u2019s condition slowly started to improve.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis fur started growing back in after a few weeks, and he definitely looked better than before,\u201d Kendra said.<\/p>\n

Throughout this process, Kendra and her family also got ringworm \u2014 but they, like Cosmo, continued to press on.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thankfully kept it from our other cats,\u201d Kendra said. \u201cBut I wouldn\u2019t wish that on my worst enemy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once Cosmo started oral medication, his healing really took off.<\/p>\n

Despite not being fully back to health, Cosmo\u2019s personality still always shone through.<\/p>\n

\u201c[He\u2019s] super spunky, super lovey and super mischievous,\u201d Kendra said.<\/p>\n

And after a while, Cosmo\u2019s coat of fur looked almost normal.<\/p>\n

Months after being rescued and receiving treatment for ringworm, Cosmo had overcome the infection \u2014 thanks in no small part to the love of his family.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s wild looking back and seeing him now,\u201d Kendra said.<\/p>\n

Best of all, Cosmo was quickly embraced by the family\u2019s two other cats, from whom he had to be kept apart during his treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll three of the cats are besties now!\u201d Kendra said.<\/p>\n

Although it had been a long and difficult road to recovery for Cosmo and his family, Kendra and her husband say they would do it all over again for the little \u201cgremlin\u201d who ran to their feet for help last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy husband said once, ‘Well, hopefully we can find him a good home once he\u2019s better,\u2019\u201d Kendra recalled. \u201cBut I knew we\u2019d keep him.\u201d<\/p>\n
