Finneas O\u2019Connell is coming to his sister Billie Eilish\u2019s defense.<\/p>\n
The Grammy winner took to Threads<\/a> on Wednesday to clap back at haters who criticized the \u201cWildflower\u201d singer\u2019s Grammys acceptance speech, which saw her slam ICE<\/a>.<\/p>\n More from The Hollywood Reporter<\/p>\n \u201cSeeing a lot of very powerful old white men outraged about what my 24 year old sister said during her acceptance speech,\u201d O\u2019Connell wrote. \u201cWe can literally see your names in the Epstein files.\u201d<\/p>\n After winning the award for song of the year for \u201cWildflower,\u201d Eilish used her time onstage to speak out against the Trump administration\u2019s intense and controversial immigration enforcement. She and O\u2019Connell also wore \u201cICE OUT<\/a>\u201d pins\u00a0on their outfits.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel so honored every time I get to be in this room,\u201d she said in part. \u201cAnd, as grateful as I feel, I honestly don\u2019t feel like I need to say anything, but that no one is illegal on stolen land. \u2026 It\u2019s just really hard to know what to say and what to do right now, and I feel really hopeful in this room.\u201d<\/p>\n Eilish then went on to urge the public to \u201ckeep fighting and speaking up and protesting,\u201d before yelling, \u201cFuck ICE,\u201d which was bleeped on the CBS telecast.<\/p>\n While Eilish wasn\u2019t the only one calling out ICE at the Grammys, as Bad Bunny<\/a>, Shaboozey and Olivia Dean<\/a> also had their own commentary, the \u201cBad Guy\u201d singer\u2019s remarks definitely caught one man\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n During the Senate\u2019s antitrust hearing on the Netflix-Warner Bros Discovery merger, Sen. Ted Cruz brought up her speech<\/a>, saying to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos and Warner Bros. Discovery chief revenue officer Bruce Campbell, \u201cAt the Grammys, when you see an entertainer say, \u2018Nobody is illegal while we\u2019re on stolen land,\u2019 and then you see entertainers leap to their feet, clapping so excitedly at the notion that America is fundamentally illegitimate, it starts to convey that the entertainment world is deeply corrupt.\u201d<\/p>\n Cruz didn\u2019t name Eilish directly, but added that the singer \u201cpromptly went back to her $14 million mansion, and somehow that stolen land she wasn\u2019t concerned about.\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere on Threads, O\u2019Connell also slammed an opinion piece published on USA Today<\/a> post-Grammys, telling artists they should stick to performing and stay away from politics.<\/p>\n \u201cYou just can\u2019t do both,\u201d he wrote<\/a>. \u201cYou can\u2019t say it doesn\u2019t matter what musicians or celebrities say or think but then talk about it for days.
