Oscar nominee<\/a>. Culinary student. Singer, songwriter, choreographer, dancer. The list goes on and on, but Teyana Taylor<\/a> will soon add another bullet to her already-enviable resume<\/a>: feature filmmaker. Paramount Pictures<\/a> announced today that the \u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d nominee\u2019s first feature directorial outing will arrive in theaters on April 9, 2027.<\/p>\n

The project, known as \u201cGet Lite<\/a>,\u201d was first announced in 2024<\/a>, with the news that \u201cA Wrinkle in Time\u201d and \u201cEuphoria\u201d actress Storm Reid would co-star in the upcoming film<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Based on today\u2019s announcement, it appears that Taylor is still looking for a male lead for the film, which is officially billed as the story of \u201ca talented, but sheltered, dance student [who] finds inspiration, love, and family in the last place he expected: the subways of New York City.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film will be produced by Kenya Barris, Anni Weisband (Khalabo Ink Society), Reid, Robyn Simpson (A Seed & Wings Productions), and Bill Karesh (OFFBRND), with Taylor also serving as executive producer.<\/p>\n

The multi-talented Taylor has a long history of directing her own music videos via her all-female music production company The Aunties, launched in 2017. With \u201cGet Lite,\u201d she\u2019s further tapping into her roots, embracing a story that recalls her time also working as a choreographer and dancer, dating back to the start of her music career in 2010.<\/p>\n

In 2024, she further expounded on her creative desires in an interview with IndieWire<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m even in a space where I\u2019m making sure the roles that I take are roles that are going to allow me to keep pushing my range and to continue to work toward being a better version of everything than I am,\u201d she said. \u201cSo, for me, I don\u2019t want to take anything that\u2019s too easy. I want to take on the challenge and further myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paramount today also announced dates for three other upcoming films on its slate: Jonathan Levine\u2019s David Corenswet-starring \u201cUntitled John Tuggle Film\u201d (previously known as \u201cMr. Irrelevant\u201d) is set for December 25, 2026; Potsy Ponciroli\u2019s modern-day Western \u201cThe Rescue\u201d will be released on\u00a0January 29, 2027; and an untitled \u201cParamount Horror Event Film\u201d will come out on July 16, 2027 (no other details, including director or cast, were shared).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Oscar nominee.
