\n\tWith Saturday Night Live<\/a> back from its midseason hiatus, Bowen Yang<\/a> is tuning in from the other side of the world.<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing his departure from the NBC<\/a> sketch comedy series halfway through Season 51 in December, the 5x Emmy nominee admits it has been \u201cbizarre, but ultimately fun\u201d seeing the remainder of the season as an audience member.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was in Japan but I was watching,\u201d he told People<\/a> of the latest episodes. \u201cI was getting texts from old coworkers, just saying hi and that the train was still running and a mutual missing of each other.<\/p>\n

\n\tYang said it \u201cfeels very strange\u201d going from a cast member of seven seasons to a viewer. \u201cI don\u2019t want to believe that it\u2019s totally bizarre to me, but it\u2019s obviously an adjustment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTo not know what the process is from soup to nuts with the whole week is alleviating,\u201d explained Yang. \u201cThe emotional baggage of it has been lifted for me. So just watching the sketches every week these past three shows have been great.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing the surprise announcement of his midseason departure<\/a>, Yang signed off from SNL<\/a> with the Dec. 20 episode, which was hosted by Ariana Grande with musical guest Cher.<\/p>\n

\n\tJoining the show as a writer with Season 44 in 2018, Yang was promoted to the cast the next year. In 2021, he became the first SNL featured player to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy.<\/p>\n
