Coaching in the NFL is simply not in the cards for Deion Sanders.<\/p>\n

When asked during an episode of ESPN\u2019s \u201cFirst Take\u201d on Friday if there was any way he would be willing to go from coaching in the NCAA to the pros, Sanders said bluntly that there\u2019s nothing that would get him to make the jump.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot whatsoever,\u201d Sanders said<\/a>. \u201cWhat transpired with my son [Shedeur Sanders] last year, ain\u2019t no way in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

After trailing off from that conversation, Sanders resumed on the topic of him ever becoming an NFL coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you, Lord,\u201d he added. \u201cWhen I stop like that, that don\u2019t mean I\u2019m lost for words. \u2026 That means God said, \u2018You a head coach now, you can\u2019t do that. You can\u2019t talk like that, you can\u2019t say that. I know you\u2019re comfortable with your brothers here, but you can\u2019t say that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Sanders has been at the helm of Colorado since 2023, leading the team to a 16-21 record over his three-year tenure.<\/p>\n

In addition to coaching, Sanders also discussed Shedeur\u2019s roller-coaster rookie season with the Browns that saw the 23-year-old start the year as Cleveland\u2019s third-string quarterback and end with him starting the final seven games.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a tough year [for the Sanders family],\u201d Sanders said. \u201cWe didn\u2019t fault him. We didn\u2019t doubt. We didn\u2019t back up off that thing. We stood there and we fought, man. And we\u2019re back.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year, in 2026, is ours. We\u2019re going to dominate this year, from the top to the bottom.\u201d<\/p>\n

In eight games, Shedeur threw for 1,400 yards, completing 56.6 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns to 10 interceptions. <\/p>\n

He reached the Pro Bowl as a replacement<\/a> for Patriots star Drake Maye.<\/p>\n

Shedeur\u2019s up-and-down season led to former NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck questioning if the 2025 fifth-round pick is even worthy of a backup spot next season<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, quite frankly, I don\u2019t think he would even enter training camp as the second guy on the roster,\u201d Hasslebeck said during an appearance on ESPN\u2019s \u201cGet Up\u201d earlier this week. \u201cSo I don\u2019t think that\u2019s how they\u2019ll operate. It\u2019s hard to become a head coach in the NFL and if you do, you\u2019ve got to try to win with a quarterback.<\/p>\n
