Rock singer Brad Arnold, the founder and lead singer of 3 Doors Down, has died at the age of 47, the band announced Saturday.<\/p>\n

He died on Saturday \u201cpeacefully\u201d in his sleep \u201cafter his courageous battle with cancer,\u201d the band shared on social media. <\/a>His wife Jennifer and his family were by his side, according to the post.<\/p>\n

Arnold was the founding member, singer and original drummer for the band that helped shape the rock genre, known for hits including \u201cHere Without You,\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s Not My Time,\u201d and \u201cKryptonite\u201d \u2014 which he wrote at the age of 15. <\/p>\n

“His music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on,” the band said in a tribute. <\/p>\n

He was remembered as a “devoted husband,” and beloved for his “kindness, humor, and generosity.”<\/p>\n

“Those closest to him will remember not only his talent, but his warmth, humility, faith, and deep love for his family and friends,” the tribute said. “He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.”<\/p>\n

Condolences poured in on social media from other rock stars.<\/p>\n

Singer Chris Daughtry wrote: \u201cSending my love to the Arnold family. Rest easy brother. You will be missed.\u201d The band Creed added, \u201cSending love to the Arnold and 3DD family.\u201d<\/p>\n

“We are so very sorry. Brad was always such a top notch, class act to us. Even before we were anything at all- he supported us,” the band Black Stone Cherry wrote. “Such a huge loss and our prayers go out to his family and band.”<\/p>\n

Arnold had announced in May <\/a>that he had stage four kidney cancer.<\/a><\/p>\n

He had shared an Instagram video saying he was sick and doctors diagnosed him with clear cell renal carcinoma that metastasized into his lung. At the time he asked his fans for prayer and announced the bands tour would be canceled. <\/p>\n

“I’d love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance to get and take. It’s time for me to go listen to ‘Not My Time’ a little bit, right?” he said. <\/p>\n

3 Doors down was formed in 1996 in Escatawpa, Mississippi, with Arnold, Matt Roberts and Todd Harrell. The band rose to fame in early 2000, when their hit song \u201cKryptonite\u201d charted third on the Billboard Hot 100.<\/p>\n
