Mac Forehand<\/a>, a freestyle skier who grew up in Fairfield and now lives in Utah, qualified for the Olympic finals in the Slopestyle competition<\/a> Saturday morning at Livigno Snow Park<\/a> in Italy.<\/p>\n

Forehand, who is competing in his second Olympic Games, was 15th after the first run but had the third-best score of 74.46 in the second run to move up to sixth. He finished as the top American ahead of 2022 Olympic gold medalist Alex Hall<\/a> (eighth) and Konnor Ralph (10th).<\/p>\n

The finals will take place Tuesday starting at 6:30 a.m. EST.<\/p>\n

Forehand will also compete in Big Air, which begins Feb. 15.<\/p>\n

Forehand, 24, won the silver medal in slopestyle at the 2025 World Championships and won the X Games Big Air gold medal Jan. 23 in Aspen. He finished 11th in Big Air at the 2022 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

\nKnight ties scoring record in US win<\/p>\n

Hilary Knight, the captain of the U.S. women\u2019s ice hockey team who went to Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, scored her 14th career Olympic goal Saturday which tied the U.S. record shared by Natalie Darwitz and Katie King, as the American defeated Finland 5-0 in a second round game at the Milano Rho ice hockey arena in Milan, Italy.<\/p>\n

Knight\u2019s goal, which came on a power play 9:17 into the second period, gave the U.S. a 4-0 lead.<\/p>\n

The US is 11-0 against Finland, the bronze medalist in 2022. The Finnish team suffered from a bout of norovirus and had its first game against Canada postponed due to the illness.<\/p>\n

Knight is participating in her fifth Olympic Games and going for her fifth medal and second gold. She won her first gold medal in 2018.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just love scoring and just the pure elation of finding the back of the net,\u201d Knight told reporters after the game. \u201cIt\u2019s just a little kid moment that when you score it\u2019s pure excitement and it\u2019s fun to celebrate.\u201d<\/p>\n
