Mark Cuban said artificial intelligence is only in its early stages and has the potential to create massive wealth\u2014possibly even the world\u2019s first trillionaire. He uses AI extensively in his personal life and sees it as a powerful tool for improving productivity and creativity. Still, he acknowledged the risks and limitations of AI.<\/p>\n
Some of the world\u2019s largest and most successful tech companies were built at home: Steve Jobs founded Apple in the garage<\/a> of his parents\u2019 home, and Jeff Bezos also founded Amazon in his garage<\/a>.<\/p>\n And thanks to artificial intelligence, the trend of developing blockbuster companies at home is sure to continue. Mark Cuban<\/a>, the billionaire former principal owner of the Dallas Mavericks and Shark Tank star, recently said AI could help make the world\u2019s first trillionaire.<\/p>\n \u201cWe haven\u2019t seen the best or the craziest of what [AI is] going to be able to do,\u201d Cuban told the High Performance podcast<\/a> in an episode<\/a> published last summer. \u201cAnd not only do I think it\u2019ll create a trillionaire, but it could be just one dude in the basement. That\u2019s how crazy it could be.\u201d<\/p>\n Take OpenAI, for example, which was formed in cofounder and president Greg Brockman\u2019s living room in 2015. OpenAI is reportedly vying<\/a> for an $800 billion valuation as it pursues more funding. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, is worth about $2 billion<\/a>.<\/p>\n While that\u2019s a far cry from AI creating the world\u2019s first trillionaire, a September 2024 report by wealth-tracking service Informa Connect said Tesla<\/a> CEO Elon Musk is on pace to become a trillionaire by 2027<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s always something bigger and better that\u2019s created by an innovative entrepreneur,\u201d Cuban said. \u201cBut AI just dwarfs all that.\u201d<\/p>\n Cuban appears to firmly believe in the power of AI, and said we\u2019re only in the \u201cpreseason\u201d of what the technology can really do.<\/p>\n \u201cAs it becomes more advanced\u2014and I\u2019m not saying we\u2019re going to get the Terminator\u2014I\u2019m not saying all of a sudden there\u2019s going to be robots that are smarter than people, like the movie,\u201d he told High Performance. \u201cBut we\u2019ll find ways to make our lives better, more interesting, to work better, more effectively.\u201d<\/p>\n Cuban also said he uses AI for nearly everything. He gave an example of how he uses it to track health metrics since he suffers from atrial fibrillation (\u201cA-fib\u201d).<\/p>\n He had to track when he was taking medications and working out, and used ChatGPT to help him record it. He also asked ChatGPT to let him know if there\u2019s something he writes down that doesn\u2019t seem right or that he should be concerned about.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd damn if it doesn\u2019t do it,\u201d Cuban said. \u201cNow you\u2019ve got to be careful. It\u2019s like talking to a friend who you think knows a lot about something. You\u2019ve still got to be careful and talk to an expert, but being able to do the process and just having things identified that I might not have known to look for was insane\u2014just insane.\u201d<\/p>\n Cuban touches on one of the larger concerns when it comes to relying on AI for making important health- or life-related decisions<\/a>. While ChatGPT has served as an accessible means for getting advice, and even therapy<\/a>, experts have warned the technology still has limitations and makes mistakes.<\/p>\n To combat this, Cuban said, he challenges the AI tools he\u2019s using with more questions and does his own research.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s times when I don\u2019t think the answer is what it should be, or I think it\u2019s wrong. And I\u2019ll say, \u2018I don\u2019t think you\u2019re right. I need you to show me the evidence of how you got to this decision,\u2019\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd it\u2019s no different than talking to a friend or a work colleague and just calling bulls***.\u201d<\/p>\n And on the hot topic of whether AI will take everyone\u2019s jobs, Cuban said no.<\/p>\n \u201cI can just go on all the s*** I\u2019m trying with AI, and I\u2019m not here to tell you that it\u2019s going to replace everybody\u2019s job.
