{"id":456368,"date":"2026-02-08T12:40:16","date_gmt":"2026-02-08T12:40:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/456368\/"},"modified":"2026-02-08T12:40:16","modified_gmt":"2026-02-08T12:40:16","slug":"nfl-prohibits-players-from-ownership-interest-in-prediction-markets-companies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/456368\/","title":{"rendered":"NFL prohibits players from ownership interest in prediction markets companies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The news that NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo has <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/giannis-antetokounmpos-stake-in-kashi-opens-new-door-to-potential-sports-corruption\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">become a shareholder<\/a> in prediction-markets mega-company Kalshi raises an obvious question: Could NFL players do the same thing?<\/p>\n<p>And the answer is no.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNFL players may not own a stake,\u201d chief NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said via email to PFT. <\/p>\n<p>The fact that Antetokounmpo holds a piece of Kalshi obviously don\u2019t remove the guardrails that apply to all players. As a Kalshi spokesperson told PFT, the company bans players from trading on prediction markets (i.e., betting) on topics involving their sport. That still applies to Antetokounmpo, despite his new status as a shareholder.<\/p>\n<p>Like sportsbooks, Kalshi uses the IC360 system to determine whether users have connections to the broader world of sports.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, those protections already apply to NFL players. The question of becoming a shareholder is separate from that.
