The DC Universe has officially found its new Kara Zor-El. Warner Bros. debuted a new explosive trailer for Supergirl during Super Bowl LX. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film promises a stark departure from the traditional superhero origin story. Starring Milly Alcock in the titular role, the trailer teases a visually stunning, hard-edged space opera that sees Superman’s cousin trading the bright skies of Metropolis for the brutal frontiers of the galaxy.

Based on the critically acclaimed comic run Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the screenplay by Ana Nogueira follows Kara Zor-El on a darker path than her famous cousin. After an unexpected and ruthless adversary—played by Matthias Schoenaerts—strikes too close to home, Kara is forced onto a path of vengeance. The footage reveals that she won’t be traveling alone; she reluctantly joins forces with an “unlikely companion” in the form of Lobo, the cigar-chomping Czarnian bounty hunter played by Jason Momoa. The pairing confirms months of speculation regarding Momoa’s new role in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe.

The ensemble cast features Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, the young alien who recruits Supergirl for her quest, alongside David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Schoenaerts as the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills. The trailer showcases the film’s unique aesthetic, blending high-fantasy sci-fi with the grit of a classic western. Cinematographer Rob Hardy and production designer Neil Lamont have crafted a universe that feels ancient and lived-in, distinct from the clean lines of previous DC entries.

Produced by DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, Supergirl represents a key pillar in the new “Gods and Monsters” chapter of the DCU. The project highlights a shift toward director-driven storytelling, with Gillespie bringing his signature blend of dark humor and kinetic energy to the franchise. Check out the trailer above. Supergirl is scheduled to land in theaters and IMAX across North America on June 26, 2026, with international rollouts beginning on June 24.

Summary Warner Bros.
