Boxer and influencer Jake Paul explained that he wasn\u2019t calling Bad Bunny a \u201cfake citizen\u201d in his tweet that criticized the Puerto Rican singer\u2019s\u00a0Super Bowl 2026 halftime show<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Paul, who purchased a $20 million mansion in Dorado, P.R.,<\/a> in 2023, said in his initial tweet that he was \u201cpurposely turning off the halftime show\u201d and couldn\u2019t support it <\/a>because Bad Bunny \u201cpublicly hates America.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo clarify: I wasn\u2019t calling anyone a \u2018fake citizen\u2019 because they\u2019re from Puerto Rico. I live in Puerto Rico, and I love Puerto Rico. I have used my platform to support Puerto Rico time and time again and will always do so. But if you\u2019re publicly criticizing ICE who are doing their job and openly hating on America, I\u2019m going to speak on it. Period. That\u2019s the same reason I called out Hunter Hess,\u201d Paul wrote<\/a>, mentioning the U.S. Olympic skier who expressed \u201cmixed emotions\u201d about representing America.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you benefit from a country and the platform it gives you, but publicly disrespect it at the same time, that\u2019s what I mean by being a fake citizen,\u201d Paul continued. \u201cAnd I agree love is more powerful than hate. Love America.\u201d<\/p>\n

In another tweet, Paul explained that his words were misunderstood.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe problem with my tweet is the word fake being misinterpreted he\u2019s not a fake citizen obviously bc he\u2019s Puerto Rican and I love Puerto Rico and all Americans who support the country Moreso Bunny is fake bc of his values and criticism of our great country,\u201d Paul wrote.<\/p>\n

Paul\u2019s initial tweet was flagged by X with a note that said he\u2019s been living in Puerto Rico since 2021 and that people who live there are U.S. citizens.<\/p>\n

Many were critical of Bad Bunny because he performed his entire 13-minute set in Spanish \u2014 and he publicly spoke out against ICE.<\/p>\n

The six-time Grammy winner\u00a0presented a message of unity in his show<\/a>, which paid homage to his Latin culture. <\/p>\n

President Donald Trump also slammed Bad Bunny\u2019s halftime show<\/a>, calling it \u201can affront to the Greatness of America.\u201d<\/p>\n
