{"id":458902,"date":"2026-02-09T21:52:47","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T21:52:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/458902\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T21:52:47","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T21:52:47","slug":"martin-fehervary-named-alternate-captain-of-slovakias-olympic-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/458902\/","title":{"rendered":"Martin Fehervary named alternate captain of Slovakia\u2019s Olympic team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"1567\" height=\"1045\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/martin-fehervary-alternate-captain.jpg\" class=\"above-the-fold wp-post-image\" alt=\"Martin Fehervary alternate captain Team Slovakia\"  decoding=\"async\"  fetchpriority=\"high\" loading=\"eager\"\/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tScreenshot: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUilhJmDIMY\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">@hockeyslovakia\/Instagram<\/a>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Martin Fehervary received a huge honor from his national team.<\/p>\n<p>Monday, the Capitals\u2019 26-year-old defenseman was named alternate captain of the Slovakian Olympic team. <\/p>\n<p>Former NHL legend Tomas Tatar, who currently plays for EV Zug of the Swiss National League, will be the team\u2019s captain. <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/erik-cernak\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Erik Cernak&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Erik Cernak<\/a>, a defenseman on the Tampa Bay Lightning, will join Fehervary as an alternate.<\/p>\n<p>Per the Slovakian national team\u2019s announcement on Instagram and as translated by Meta:<\/p>\n<p>There is no big surprise \u2013 in the position of captain the Slovak team at ZOH Tom\u00e1\u0161 Tatar will lead.<\/p>\n<p>Assistants will be Erik Cern\u00e1k and Martin Feh\u00e9rv\u00e1ry.<\/p>\n<p>As coach Vladim\u00edr Orsz\u00e1gh said: \u201cThree players will have the letter on the jersey, but we believe that all will be leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The nod for Fehervary comes after<a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/2025\/08\/22\/martin-fehervary-best-defenseman-slovakia-robert-svehla-award\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> he won the R\u00f3bert \u0160vehla Award as best Slovak defenseman for the third consecutive year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fehervary\u2019s appearance at the Olympics marks his first with Slovakia. He\u2019s played on his country\u2019s senior World Championship team four different times in his career.<\/p>\n<p>Fehervary, a veteran of 357 NHL games, has recorded 20 points (4g, 16a) in 58 games during the 2025-26 campaign, his sixth in the NHL.
