On February 10, 2026, Apple will <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/102287#:~:text=Support%20for%20the%20previous%20version%20of%20Apple%20Home%20will%20end%20on%20February%2010%2C%202026.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">end support for the original HomeKit architecture<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The biggest impact of the change will be felt by anyone still using an iPad as their <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/102557\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Apple Home Hub<\/a> (which allows you to control devices remotely and create automations).<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">In the new Apple Home, iPads are no longer supported as hubs. You\u2019ll need a HomePod or Apple TV to serve that role. The new architecture also requires your phone and any devices connected to your Home to be running iOS 16.2 or later (or macOS 13.1\/watchOS 9.2 or higher).<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The new Apple Home architecture <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/6\/6\/23150367\/apple-wwdc-ios-16-homekit-new-home-app-matter#:~:text=During%20the%20keynote,and%20pet%20feeders.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fully launched with iOS 16.4<\/a> in 2023, and was a ground-up rebuild of the platform. It brought increased performance and reliability, according to Apple, along with support for Matter, the new smart home standard Apple helped develop and to which it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/6\/6\/23150367\/apple-wwdc-ios-16-homekit-new-home-app-matter#:~:text=During%20the%20keynote,and%20pet%20feeders.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">contributed HomeKit as a foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Upgrading has been optional since the launch of the new platform, but Apple announced last year that it would phase out the old HomeKit architecture by the end of 2025.
