Contributed photo Buck Creek Photography\" fetchpriority=\"auto\" width=\"1600\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-credit-text\">Credit: Buck Creek Photography<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.springfieldnewssun.com\/news\/bomb-threats-suspicious-packages-in-springfield-prompt-evacuations\/USM6T4IWIRCT3MG6JRGZETETDA\/[object Object]\" class=\"image-expand\" alt=\"icon to expand image\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-credit-text\">Credit: Buck Creek Photography<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text \" data-index=\"6\">\u201cThis is a despicable act,\u201d DeWine said. \u201cIt\u2019s caused kids to miss a whole day of school today for the city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text \" data-index=\"8\">The Federal Bureau of Investigation is involved in the investigation, DeWine said, as well as the governor\u2019s public safety office and the Dayton bomb squad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text \" data-index=\"9\">\u201cThey are on the scene and we don\u2019t have any results yet that I\u2019m aware of in regard to those bomb exams or those examinations of those duffel bags,\u201d DeWine said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text \" data-index=\"10\">A member of the bomb squad in a suit was seen going in and out of the public safety building, as well as a robot that has x-ray capabilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text \" data-index=\"11\">Dayton International Air Force Bomb Squad was at the scene, as was a K-9 unit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text \" data-index=\"12\">DeWine referenced a slew of bomb threats several Springfield government offices, schools, businesses and people received in late 2024 after Springfield was thrust into the national spotlight when baseless rumors that Haitians were eating pets went viral. Most of those threats came from overseas, DeWine said, and Monday\u2019s threats are different with someone being involved locally to place duffel bags.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text \" data-index=\"15\">An estimated 10,000 to 15,000 people from Haiti live in the Springfield area, and many are Temporary Protected Status holders. TPS was previously set to end after Feb. 3, but a judge paused that while a lawsuit challenging the move goes through the courts; the ruling postpones the end of TPS for Haiti indefinitely while the case proceeds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text \" data-index=\"16\">The Trump administration on Friday filed an appeal in the case and a federal district judge ordered the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to state whether it\u2019s planning an Immigration and Customs Enforcement surge in Springfield and elsewhere if the end of Temporary Protected Status for Haitians goes forward.<\/p>\n<p>DIG following the end of TPS, school and state officials stressed they have had no direct communication with the feds about potential enforcement actions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.springfieldnewssun.com\/news\/springfield-schools-leader-area-officials-preparing-but-lack-details-of-possible-ice-activity\/JC446T42YBDN3JTRNO4DNVM56M\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">but they are preparing for the possibility.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text \" data-index=\"25\">\u2022 A community in fear: Reporter Cornelius Frolik traveled the streets
