{"id":459140,"date":"2026-02-10T00:42:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T00:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/459140\/"},"modified":"2026-02-10T00:42:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T00:42:07","slug":"google-ai-tools-start-blocking-disney-prompts-post-legal-threat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/459140\/","title":{"rendered":"Google AI Tools Start Blocking Disney Prompts Post-Legal Threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tEXCLUSIVE: <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/google\/\" id=\"auto-tag_google\" data-tag=\"google\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Google<\/a> appears to have backed down in its AI dispute with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/disney\/\" id=\"auto-tag_disney\" data-tag=\"disney\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Disney<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/disney-google-cease-and-desist-letter-1236645802\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/disney-google-cease-and-desist-letter-1236645802\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Disney issued Google with a cease and desist letter<\/a> in December, complaining that the tech giant\u2019s AI products were behaving like a \u201cvirtual vending machine\u201d for the Mouse House\u2019s IP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tNearly two months on, and Deadline can reveal that Google tools, including Gemini and Nano Banana, are now denying prompts that contain Disney-owned characters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn January, <a data-id=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/01\/disney-ai-war-google-1236682656\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/01\/disney-ai-war-google-1236682656\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Deadline experimented with several Google<\/a> AI prompts involving the likes of Yoda, Iron Man, Frozen\u2019s Elsa, and Winnie-the-Pooh, all of which generated high-quality images.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThese same prompts were today blocked by Google\u2019s AI models. The denial message read: \u201cI can\u2019t generate the image you requested right now due to concerns from third-party content providers. Please edit your prompt and try again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tTwo other U.S.-based sources told Deadline they were also thwarted in efforts to generate AI images from Disney-related text prompts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tGoogle and Disney were approached for comment.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/MixCollage-09-Feb-2026-10-34-PM-178.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"578\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tThe same Google Gemini prompt, different results<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAlthough changes appear to have been made, Google\u2019s AI products continued to generate Disney-related IP when uploading photos of characters alongside text prompts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFor example, Deadline uploaded a photo of Buzz Lightyear alongside Google\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyberlink.com\/blog\/trending-topics\/4208\/gemini-ai-3d-figure?srsltid=AfmBOorm_xiBRchnXuUwiJOrAtaKU-fIxP7M6sHSSZOpqhHHkjov8K95\">viral figurine prompt<\/a>, which enabled Gemini to create a virtual figurine featuring Tim Allen\u2019s character. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn December, Disney\u2019s outside attorney David Singer wrote a 32-page cease and desist letter to Google detailing the ways in which tools like Veo, Nano Banana, and Gemini were \u201cinfringing Disney\u2019s copyrights on a massive scale.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe letter contained several examples, complete with embedded pictures, explaining how simple text prompts resulted in glossy renderings of Disney characters, including Darth Vader and Iron Man.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDisney\u2019s letter set out four demands of Google, including immediately halting copyright infringement and ordering the company to stop training models on Mouse House IP. The missive added that Disney had been \u201craising concerns\u201d for months with no progress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAt the time the letter was made public, a Google spokesperson said: \u201cWe have a longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship with Disney, and will continue to engage with them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cMore generally, we use public data from the open web to build our AI and have built additional innovative copyright controls like Google-extended and Content ID for YouTube, which give sites and copyright holders control over their content.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDisney sent Google the warning in the same week it <a data-id=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/disney-openai-deal-sora-1236645728\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/disney-openai-deal-sora-1236645728\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed a $1B deal with OpenAI<\/a>, licensing characters to Sora, the generative video app.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"EXCLUSIVE: Google appears to have backed down in its AI dispute with Disney.
