\n\tAcademy Award winners Brendan Fraser<\/a> and Rachel Weisz<\/a> are officially returning for a fourth installment of the blockbuster franchise, \u201cThe Mummy<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tUniversal Pictures has dated the movie for a wide theatrical release on May 19, 2028.<\/p>\n

\n\tFraser and Weisz, whose involvement was first reported last fall<\/a>, have closed deals to reprise their roles as adventurer Rick O\u2019Connell and Egyptologist Evelyn O\u2019Connell in the movie, plot details for which are being kept \u2014 not unironically \u2014 under wraps.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actors\u2019 legend begins with the 1999 reboot of \u201cThe Mummy,\u201d which follows a treasure hunter who accidentally awakens a cursed Egyptian priest with supernatural powers. The movie and its 2001 sequel \u201cThe Mummy Returns\u201d were major box office hits, reviving the classic monster movie IP and establishing Fraser as a bankable action star. Weisz, however, did not appear in the 2008 threequel \u201cThe Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,\u201d so her return to the franchise is particularly thrilling for fans. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe new \u201cMummy\u201d movie is directed by Radio Silence\u2019s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (\u201cReady or Not\u201d and sequel \u201cReady or Not 2: Here I Come\u201d) from a screenplay by David Coggeshall (\u201cThe Family Plan,\u201d \u201cOrphan: First Kill\u201d). <\/p>\n

\n\tSean Daniel \u2014 who has produced each installment of the $1.8 billion-grossing franchise at the studio since 1999\u2019s \u201cThe Mummy,\u201d including \u201cThe Mummy Returns,\u201d \u201cThe Scorpion King,\u201d \u201cThe Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor\u201d and the 2017 Dark Universe project \u201cThe Mummy\u201d \u2014 also returns for the film. <\/p>\n

\n\tWilliam Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein also produce through Project X Entertainment. In addition to starring in the movie, Fraser will serve as an executive producer alongside Hivemind\u2019s Jason F. Brown and Denis Stewart.<\/p>\n

\n\tExecutive VP of production development Jay Polidoro and director of production development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the studio. <\/p>\n

\n\tFraser and Weisz are represented by CAA and Linden Entertainment. Fraser is also repped by Felker Tozcek Suddleson Abramson, and Weisz by Independent Talent and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof + Fishman.<\/p>\n

\n\tCAA also represents Radio Silence alongside Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
