\n\tBritney Spears<\/a> has sold her song catalog and an unclear number of other rights to Primary Wave, two sources confirm to Variety. Reps for both Spears and Primary Wave declined Variety\u2018s requests for comment; the news was first reported by TMZ<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tDetails were unclear \u2014and likely under iron-clad non-disclosure agreements \u2014 but TMZ estimated the deal to be in the low nine figures.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt seems safe to assume that Spears\u2019 artist royalties and publishing rights<\/a> were included in the deal. The TMZ report, which is based on legal documents the publication says it has viewed, states that she sold \u201cher ownership share of her catalog\u201d to Primary Wave; it notes that the price was not included in the legal documents. <\/p>\n

\n\tSpears has songwriting credits on nearly 40 of the songs in her catalog, although few of them were major hits apart from the ballad \u201cEverytime\u201d and fan favorites like \u201cMe Against the Music,\u201d \u201cS&M,\u201d \u201cWork Bitch!\u201d and others. <\/p>\n

\n\tIt seems extremely unlikely that Spears\u2019 NIL rights (name and likeness) were included in the deal, unless it was for exponentially more than the price TMZ speculates. <\/p>\n

\n\tThere are any number of options for exploitation of the catalog, including the forthcoming biopic based on her memoir \u201cThe Woman in Me,\u201d<\/a> which landed at Universal Pictures in 2024. A jukebox musical based on her hits, \u201cOnce Upon a One More Time,\u201d premiered on Broadway in 2023. <\/p>\n

\n\tSpears has not released an album since 2016\u2019s \u201cGlory\u201d and has not performed in concert since October of 2018, closing out her \u201cPiece of Me\u201d tour with a final show at the Formula One Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. She had been scheduled to return to Las Vegas in 2019 for a second residency, \u201cDomination,\u201d following the success of her first residency, \u201cBritney Spears: Piece of Me,\u201d which concluded in 2017. However, she ultimately postponed the \u201cDomination\u201d show and stepped away from performing indefinitely.<\/p>\n

\n\tShe was released from her 13-year conservatorship <\/a>in 2021 and has kept a relatively low public profile since then, although she frequently posts free-form and sometimes-unnerving notes and videos of herself dancing at home on social media. <\/p>\n

\n\tJust over a month ago, she quashed fans\u2019 hopes for a concert tour when she wrote on social media that she \u201cwill never perform in the U.S. again\u201d<\/a> for \u201cextremely sensitive reasons,\u201d although she apparently left the door open to performing in other territories. <\/p>\n

\n\t \u201cI will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons but I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son\u2026 in the UK and AUSTRALIA very soon,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the post, the singer also shared a throwback photo of herself sitting beside a white Yamaha piano, writing in the caption, \u201cSending this piano to my son this year!!! Interestingly enough, I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about.
