home, aiming to modernise the property without losing its character.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2287941\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/garden-pavilion-studio-okami-extension-belsese-belgium-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_4-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Green marble extension to family home Belgium\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Studio Okami Architecten has extended a family home in Belgium<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.studiookami.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Studio Okami Architecten<\/a> preserved as much of the existing house as possible, adding the extension to accommodate an open-plan kitchen, living and dining space.<\/p>\n<p>Characterised by a sculptural roof and facade clad in green marble, the single-storey volume deliberately contrasts with the more traditional reddish-brown brick form of the original house.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2287942 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/garden-pavilion-studio-okami-extension-belsese-belgium-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_7-852x645.jpg\" alt=\"Green marble and glass extension overlooking gardens\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1791\"  \/>Green marble characterises The Garden Pavilion<\/p>\n<p>The studio said that polished green marble was chosen for its visually striking appearance, as well as its durability.<\/p>\n<p>A key goal for the design was to &#8220;bring the outside in&#8221;, with expansive glass doors and windows incorporated on each side of the volume, filling the space with natural light and providing a connection to the garden and changing seasons.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2287944 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/garden-pavilion-studio-okami-extension-belsese-belgium-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Extension with curved concrete roof and patio\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>The original house was owned by the client&#8217;s grandparents<\/p>\n<p>Studio Okami Architecten co-founder Hans Vanassche said that &#8220;the form of the pavilion is derived from the fact that we wanted the building to have as much relationship to the garden as possible&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The shape is a direct result of shading the big glass windows from the sun \u2013 where we use marble in the facades, the canopy is not as deep,&#8221; he told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/08\/11\/neil-dusheiko-architects-kent-home-pavilion\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/neil-dusheiko-architects-garden-pavilion-kent-sq_dezeen_2364_col_2-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Pavilion Rest by Neil Dusheiko Architects\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Neil Dusheiko Architects extends Kent home with light-filled garden pavilion\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Garden Pavilion is topped with a neutral-toned, gently curving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/concrete\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">concrete<\/a> canopy, designed to complement the marble facade.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As we wanted the marble to be the literal pillars of the project, the canopy has a much more timid materialisation with its soft concrete look emphasising the marble,&#8221; Vanassche said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2287943 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/garden-pavilion-studio-okami-extension-belsese-belgium-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_9-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Curved concrete roof on top of The Garden Pavilion by Studio Okami\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"  \/>A curved concrete canopy tops the extension<\/p>\n<p>According to Studio Okami Architecten, the existing garden shaped the final design, with mature trees and plants providing a natural framework to work around.<\/p>\n<p>The only alterations to the original garden were to make space for a new entrance and to facilitate on-site parking at the front of the property.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2287945\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/garden-pavilion-studio-okami-extension-belsese-belgium-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_16-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"Shared living spaces inside The Garden Pavilion extension\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The extension houses an open-plan living, kitchen and dining area<\/p>\n<p>Inside, the studio reorganised the layout of the existing volume to contain the home&#8217;s private spaces, while shared spaces are located in the pavilion-like extension.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By extending the original living room into the pavilion and adding the kitchen and dining area in the former centre of the garden, we were able to keep 90 per cent of the original, and just rearrange the spaces,&#8221; said Studio Okami Architecten co-founder Bram Van Cauter.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2287946\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/garden-pavilion-studio-okami-extension-belsese-belgium-architecture_dezeen_2364_col_19-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Home extension with large expanses of glazing\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Connection to the surrounding gardens was prioritised<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of the open-plan living space is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/stainless-steel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stainless steel<\/a> kitchen island, paired with speckled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/terrazzo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">terrazzo<\/a> flooring and deep bottle-green tiles to match the marble facade.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The stainless steel kitchen is the centrepiece of the living area \u2013 it orchestrates the flow of &#8216;public space&#8217;
