\n\tKatie Holmes<\/a> penned a heartfelt tribute to her \u201cDawson\u2019s Creek\u201d co-star James Van Der Beek<\/a> following the news of his death<\/a> at the age of 48. <\/p>\n

\n\tHolmes \u2014 who broke out on the teen drama as Joey Potter, the love interest of Van Der Beek\u2019s Dawson Leery \u2014 posted on Instagram late Wednesday night to share a handwritten note to him. He died on Wednesday after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2023 and is survived by his wife, Kimberly Brook, and their six children.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI formed some words with a heavy heart,\u201d Holmes wrote in the caption of her post. \u201cThis is a lot to process. I am so grateful to have shared in a piece of James\u2019 journey. He is beloved. Kimberly, we love you and will be here always for you and your beautiful children.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHolmes and Van Der Beek starred together on \u201cDawson\u2019s Creek\u201d from 1998 to 2003. In the handwritten letter, Holmes thanked Van Der Beek for all the memories they made together. \u201cTo share space with your imagination is sacred \u2014 breathing the same air in the land of make believe and trusting that each others\u2019 hearts are safe in their expression,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThese are some of the memories, along with laughter, conversations about life, James Taylor songs \u2014 adventures of a unique youth\u2026 Bravery. Compassion. Selflessness. Strength. An appreciation for life and the action taken to live life with the integrity that life is art \u2014 creating a beautiful marriage, six loving children \u2013 the journey of a hero. I mourn this loss with a heart holding the reality of his absence and a deep gratitude for his imprint on it. To Kimberly and the children, we are here for you always. And will always be there to shower you with love and compassion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDawson\u2019s Creek\u201d creator Kevin Williamson also posted a tribute on Instagram, thanking fans for their \u201coutpouring of love\u201d in the hours after Van Der Beek\u2019s death was announced. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSeveral times today, from my heart, I\u2019ve tried to form the words to express the beautiful brilliance of James and what his presence has meant to my life,\u201d the creator write. \u201cBut I am truly at a loss for words. I will have to trust that one day those words will come\u2026 But today, all I can think about is Kimberly and the entire Van Der Beek family.
