{"id":464619,"date":"2026-02-12T17:53:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T17:53:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/464619\/"},"modified":"2026-02-12T17:53:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T17:53:13","slug":"stockholm-school-of-economics-hub-added-to-forest-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/464619\/","title":{"rendered":"Stockholm School of Economics hub added to forest campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Local studios <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/johan-sundberg\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Johan Sundberg Arkitektur<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/tengbom\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tengbom<\/a> used an exposed structure of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/pine\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pine<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/spruce\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spruce<\/a>\u00a0to create a &#8220;sensory experience&#8221; at Kursg\u00e5rden K\u00e4mpasten, a campus of the Stockholm School of Economics in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/sweden\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sweden<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Set within a secluded and forested slope close to Lake M\u00e4laren on the outskirts of Sigtuna, the campus hosts the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE)&#8217;s executive education programmes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2296160 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/johan-sundberg-arkitektur-tengbom-kampasten-hub-sweden_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Kursg\u00e5rden K\u00e4mpasten by Johan Sundberg Arkitektur and Tengbom\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Johan Sundberg Arkitektur and Tengbom have completed a new building for Stockholm School of Economics<\/p>\n<p>Lund-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johansundberg.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Johan Sundberg Architektur<\/a> and Stockholm-based <a href=\"https:\/\/en.tengbom.se\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tengbom<\/a> were tasked with designing a new heart for the campus, following K\u00e4mpasten&#8217;s former catering building being destroyed by a fire in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Looking to foster a closer connection with the picturesque site and surrounding woodland, the studios created a building with bright, open interiors, framed by an exposed timber and concrete structure and wrapped by full-height glazing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2296162 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/johan-sundberg-arkitektur-tengbom-kampasten-hub-sweden_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior view of university campus by Johan Sundberg Arkitektur and Tengbom\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>An exposed structure of pine and spruce timber was used to create a &#8220;sensory experience&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our core concept was not merely to replace the lost function, but to reinforce the sensory experience of K\u00e4mpasten,&#8221; Johan Sundberg Arkitekter founder Johan Sundberg told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We aimed to create specific atmospheres &#8211; through spatial sequencing, materiality, and light &#8211; that help course participants feel a deeper connection to the place,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The collaboration with Tengbom was structured to avoid the common pitfall where a project is handed off like a baton between a &#8216;design architect&#8217; and a &#8216;production architect.&#8217; Instead, we operated with &#8216;shared custody&#8217; of the building.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2296178 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/johan-sundberg-arkitektur-tengbom-kampasten-hub-sweden_dezeen_2364_col_17-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"Dining space interior of Kursg\u00e5rden K\u00e4mpasten\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"  \/>The dining areas area held on the building&#8217;s upper floor<\/p>\n<p>Partially sunk into the sloping site atop an exposed concrete base, the building is spread across two storeys. Below are the conference, meeting, office and technical areas, while above the dining areas have been positioned to benefit from expansive views.<\/p>\n<p>To the north, half of the building has been angled away from the rectilinear form of the dining areas, orienting its entrance towards a new communal square that has been created on the site of the former dining hall.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/10\/09\/anthony-timberlands-center-grafton-architects\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/sq-anthony-timberlands-center-grafton-architects-mass-timber-university-arkansas_dezeen_2364_col_3-1.jpeg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Anthony Timberlands Center for Design and Materials Innovation by Grafton Architects\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Grafton Architects completes first mass-timber building for University of Arkansas\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The triangular space created at the centre of the plan by this &#8220;angular shift&#8221; was used to house the bar and buffet areas as well as a concrete stairwell, beneath a central strip of skylights.<\/p>\n<p>K\u00e4mpasten&#8217;s interior finishes reflect the split between openness and enclosure across the building&#8217;s two levels, with the timber frame left exposed on the upper level and infilled with timber panels below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2296171 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/johan-sundberg-arkitektur-tengbom-kampasten-hub-sweden_dezeen_2364_col_11-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"Upper floor interior at Kursg\u00e5rden K\u00e4mpasten by Johan Sundberg Arkitektur and Tengbom\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"  \/>A concrete stairwell centres the plan<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This displacement of the main axes allows the roof ridge to &#8216;crack&#8217; open, forming a lantern that sends daylight down into the deep centre of the building,&#8221; said Sundberg.
