The weather in North America is taking its toll on the stars of the ATP Tour, and it looks like the heat is here to stay.<\/p>\n

At the Washington Open<\/a>, several players struggled with the high temperatures, as a heatwave struck the capital.<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Daniil Medvedev<\/a> was one of the big favorites to win the tournament, and started strongly, picking up wins over Reilly Opelka and Yibing Wu en route to the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n

It was there that his run came to an end, however, as Medvedev fell to French star Corentin Moutet<\/a> in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 4-6.<\/p>\n

Now travelling to Toronto for the Canadian Open<\/a>, Medvedev has been asked whether he is expecting the conditions to be any easier than they were in Washington.<\/p>\n

Daniil Medvedev says the weather is a \u2018little nicer\u2019 in Toronto than it was in Washington<\/p>\n

During an interview ahead of the 2025 Canadian Open, Medvedev shared his thoughts on the conditions in Toronto.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was hard for everyone in training, but it\u2019s easier here than it was in Washington, so it\u2019s a little nicer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

There is currently a heat warning issued for Toronto as the temperature is expected to remain in the mid- to high-70s throughout the week.<\/p>\n

Sharing his thoughts on the weather, Medvedev revealed what he was thinking about during this year\u2019s Washington Open.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe heat is hard on everyone. In Washington, we were thinking about this, how many sports are played in such heat where cardio is involved?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cProbably not many, in football there was the Club World Cup just now, but usually they play in the fall or the spring.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn tennis, starting with Australia, it can be 35 degrees, which is hard for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his quarterfinal defeat to Moutet, Medvedev explained how different players are better suited to certain conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I played against [Corentin] Moutet, it seems to me, he\u2019s one of the physically strongest on tour, plus he\u2019s small. Usually when you\u2019re little, it\u2019s easier for you to cope with it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it was just as hard for him as it was for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Looking to move on from his defeat to Moutet, Medvedev has his sights set on a strong end to the year, but isn\u2019t setting himself any specific goals.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to set specific goals, of course, you want to play well and win matches, but at the same time, I played well in Washington, but maybe I could have played some shots better and won the match,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, the goal is to squeeze the maximum out of myself.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no other way, and that is the main goal; the results will come. Continue trying to do the maximum, maybe even more than I am doing now.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no doubt Medvedev will give it his all in Toronto, making his ninth career appearance at the Canadian Open.<\/p>\n

Daniil Medvedev\u2019s record at the Canadian Open<\/p>\n

Historically a hard-court specialist, Medvedev has enjoyed several standout results in Canada over the years, reaching two finals, winning one.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s performed better at the Canadian Open than he has at four other Masters 1000 events, although Medvedev did suffer an early exit last time around.<\/p>\n

In 2024, Medvedev lost to Spain\u2019s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 4-6, 6-1, 2-6, in his opening match at the Canadian Open.<\/p>\n

Looking to make amends in 2025, Medvedev will begin his campaign against Czech youngster Dalibor Svrcina, who is competing in his first Masters 1000 main draw.<\/p>\n
