CBS News is set to ax at least 15% of its staff as part of the next round of anticipated layoffs this spring, according to a report.<\/p>\n
The Bari Weiss-led news division\u2019s planned downsizing comes as parent company Paramount Skydance executes a painful restructuring aimed at cutting costs at the network, Variety reported this week.<\/a><\/p>\n The cuts could begin as early as March, The Post previously reported. Getty Images for Uber, X and The Free Press<\/p>\n The Post was first to report earlier this week<\/a> that 11 producers tied to the \u201cCBS Evening News\u201d have already opted to take buyout packages offered last month.<\/p>\n The buyout offer for staff on Tony Dokoupil\u2019s nightly half-hour newscast was cast as an \u201cextraordinary chance to leave CBS News<\/a> with an enhanced separation payment.\u201d<\/p>\n Weiss told employees in a January townhall<\/a>\u00a0that they were free to exit if they didn\u2019t like her strategy. <\/p>\n She also said she wants to invest in more \u201crevelatory journalism\u201d and emphasize \u201cinvestigative scoops\u201d that will take advantage of both online and traditional platforms.<\/p>\n Her recent moves suggest the network is shifting resources away from traditional reporting roles and toward personality-driven programming aimed at digital and streaming audiences, Variety and the Status newsletter noted.<\/a><\/p>\n Among other steps, Weiss has named\u00a0a slew of new contributors<\/a>\u00a0including the controversial anti-aging influencer Peter Attia, whose\u00a0email correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein revealed a chummy relationship\u00a0<\/a>with the late sex offender.<\/p>\n Staffers at CBS News are bracing for deep cuts after earlier buyouts tied to the network\u2019s overhaul.
