\n\tStephen Amell<\/a> (Arrow, Heels)\u00a0is the first star to be cast in Matt Nix\u2019s Baywatch<\/a> reboot for Fox<\/a>. He will play the series regular role of Hobie Buchannon, a character from the original series.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe wild child Hobie Buchannon is now a Baywatch Captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch (played in the OG series by David Hasselhoff). Hobie\u2019s world is turned upside down when Charlie, the daughter he never knew, shows up on his doorstep, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFrom the first conversation, Stephen Amell brought exactly what this new chapter of Baywatch demands: heart, intensity, and that undeniable hero energy. He\u2019s the kind of lead who can sprint into danger, carry the emotional weight, and still make it feel fun. We\u2019re so excited to get started,\u201d shared Nix, executive producer and showrunner of Baywatch.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe role was originally played by Brandon Call for one season, then by Jeremy Jackson for the remainder of the show\u2019s run.<\/p>\n

\n\tFox teases that Baywatch\u00a0will feature adrenaline-fueled rescues, tangled relationships, complicated chemistry and beachside heroics that defined the original \u2014 now with an entirely new cast donning the show\u2019s signature red swimsuits, contemporary trappings, tensions and challenges, and a renewed mission to protect Southern California\u2019s shoreline.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe reboot received a 12-episode straight-to-series order from the broadcast network in September, after havingbeen in development at Fox\u00a0since winter 2024<\/a>. Production is slated\u00a0to begin shooting this spring on\u00a0Venice Beach\u00a0and on the Fox Studio Lot in Century City.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing its 1989 debut and a swift cancellation by NBC after one season,\u00a0the original series became the\u00a0most-watched show airing in over\u00a0200 countries,\u00a0and at its peak, reached more than\u00a0a billion viewers every week. Hasselhoff led the series and helped launch the careers of actors from Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra to Jason Momoa and Yasmine Bleeth. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe new Baywatch\u00a0is co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle with Nix\u00a0(Burn Notice,\u00a0The Gifted) serving as showrunner and executive producer alongside\u00a0executive producers\u00a0McG,\u00a0Michael Berk,\u00a0Greg Bonann,\u00a0Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz.\u00a0McG will direct the series premiere episode. Fox Entertainment Global holds all domestic distribution rights, and Fremantle manages all international sales.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmell is best known for playing the title character in the Greg Berlanti-created CW series\u00a0Arrow, based on the DC Comics superhero, The Green Arrow, for co-leading the Starz wrestling drama\u00a0Heels, and most recently, for leading NBC\u2019s Suits: LA as Ted Black. Additional TV credits include the HBO series\u00a0Hung and recurring roles on Fox\u2019s comedy\u00a0New Girl, as well as ABC\u2019s\u00a0Private Practice. <\/p>\n

\n\tOn the film side, Amell starred and produced the indie feature,\u00a0Code 8 (Parts 1 and 2), appearing alongside his cousin, Robbie Amell. He recently starred in the indie film,\u00a0Lighthouse On Little Lorraine, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. He can currently be seen in the Crave CTV mini-series The Borderline, in which he both stars and exec-produces.
