Rosie O\u2019Donnell took the risk of briefly returning to the United States, she revealed in a new interview.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Donnell, 63, fled the country to Ireland last January to escape America under Donald Trump. She told Chris Cuomo on the SiriusXM show Cuomo Mornings<\/a> that she \u201cwas recently home for two weeks, and I did not really tell anyone.\u201d The former TV host said she \u201cwanted to see how hard it would be for me to get in and out of the country,\u201d so she \u201cwent to see my family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to feel what it felt like. I wanted to hold my children again. And I hadn\u2019t been home in over a year,\u201d she added. While O\u2019Donnell brought her youngest child, 12-year-old Clay, to Ireland, she left her adult children Parker, Chelsea, Blake, and Vivienne behind. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was in New York for the last two weeks, and I have to tell you, it feels like a very different country, a very different place to me,\u201d she added. \u201cBecause for a year, I haven\u2019t been watching the news. I haven\u2019t been watching American culture television.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Donnell\u2019s long-running feud with Trump pre-dates the presidency. The two traded blows during and after her time on The View in 2006, when she rejected the idea that Trump should be the \u201cmoral authority\u201d on anything, considering his own sordid background. <\/p>\n

Since then, Trump has consistently made O\u2019Donnell a target of verbal attacks<\/a>, threatening in July that he was considering \u201ctaking away her citizenship.\u201d O\u2019Donnell called Trump \u201cKing Joffrey with a tangerine spray tan\u201d and \u201ca dangerous old soulless man with dementia\u201d in response. <\/p>\n

Despite being unafraid to trade insults with the president, O\u2019Donnell was adamant that she did not want to live in the country while he was in power. In October, she told Australia\u2019s Daily Telegraph<\/a> that she was close to obtaining Irish citizenship<\/a>. \u201cIt will be good to have my Irish citizenship, especially since Trump keeps threatening to take away mine,\u201d she said at the time.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Donnell plans to return to the U.S. again soon, she revealed Friday: \u201cI also wanted to make sure that it was safe for me before I brought my daughter this summer, where we plan to spend the summer time off from her schooling here with my family.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cI\u2019m in a place where celebrity worship does not exist. I\u2019ve been in a place where there\u2019s more balance to the news, there\u2019s more balance to life.\u201d Her latest secret visit to New York hasn\u2019t changed her mind at all, she said\u2014in fact, it made her more sure that she\u2019d made the right choice. \u201cI felt the United States in a completely different way than I ever had before I left.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I did what I needed to do to save myself, my child, and my sanity,\u201d she added. \u201cAnd I\u2019m very happy that I\u2019m not in the midst of it there, because the energy that I felt while I was in the United States was, if I can use the most simple word I can think of, it was scary.\u201d <\/p>\n

She concluded, \u201cThere\u2019s a feeling that something is really wrong, and nobody is doing anything about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
